No one on here has spoken in support of HAMAS. They are a bunch of assholes who only remain relevant because of the fucking Kahanists Bibi embraced to maintain power.

You haven’t said shit about these right wing assholes who apparently have reaped the rewards of the most successful political assassination in modern history.

Take off the blinders

The power in this equation is asymmetric with Israel on top.

Sez you.

Sure, Napoleon.

Hamas is the equal of Israel in your dreams.

The United Nations did not establish a joint state between Palestine and Israel. They proposed two states (plus UN-controlled Jerusalem), but the Arab League and the Palestinian Arabs rejected it.

That was 1947, not 1948.

While a substantial number of Palestinians left the territory prior to Israel's declaration of independence, two to three times as many left Israel after the declaration. There was also a forced exodus of Jews from Arab states.

Israel established itself on the day of the end of the British Mandate of Palestine. The Arabs declared war and attacked the day after.

Hamas is a brutal group with no respect for their own citizenry - the label of them as a terrorist group can only be denied by the most one-sided of viewers.

That does not absolve Israel of its crimes against humanity, just points out that Hamas are not the good guys here, even if Israel is not always there, either.

I have more hope that Israel will come around than that Hamas will, but I am not holding my breath for either.

---Hamas is a militant and political organization currently in power in the Gaza Strip. According to Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority, "Hamas is funded by Iran."---

Bibi has his war now. He may end Israel with his cynical attempt to avoid a well justified prison term.

Maybe so, but I wouldn't be dumb enough to attack Israel.

http://www.vox.com/2021/5/13/22434142/israel-gaza-hamas-war-trump-biden-abraham-accords

Obviously, this is a snapshot taken in recent days, while the conflict is far longer. But it provides a sense of the current tensions that led to this flare-up on the cusp of outright war. Even if one ignores the self-serving Netanyahu's personal scenario, neither Israel nor Hamas looks particularly good. Add in this next in a series of efforts calculated to deny justice's delivery to Bibi, and it looks more like both the nation and the political/terrorist group are simply playing games with the lives of others ---> not the first nor likely the last time they will have done so.

Netanyahu has to go. So does Hamas's current leadership, if not the whole group.

Quote
Last week, Israeli police in Jerusalem blocked off the Damascus Gate, a popular gathering place for Arabs during Ramadan, sparking protests. An attempt by Jewish settlers to evict longtime Arab residents of Sheikh Jarrah, an Arab neighborhood of East Jerusalem, inflamed tensions, leading to violent clashes with Israeli police. Arab youth attacked ultra-Orthodox Jews in the city, and Jewish extremists assailed Arab residents.

All of this culminated in a violent Israeli police raid on the al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem’s holiest site for Muslims, located on the Temple Mount (the holiest site in the world for Jews).

Then Hamas, the Islamist militant group that has ruled Gaza since 2007, fired rockets at Jerusalem. Ostensibly, this was a display of solidarity with the protesters on the ground. But it appears to have been a political calculation — Hamas attempting to capitalize on Palestinian anger over the violence in Jerusalem to expand its own influence, especially in the wake of recently canceled Palestinian elections that likely would have strengthened its political position.

Israel retaliated strongly, and now rockets from Gaza rip through civilians homes in Israel, and Israeli warplanes bomb Hamas and civilian targets in Gaza.

From Heather Cox Richardson:

Quote
Manchin has suggested he will not support the For the People Act without Republican support, so yesterday, he suggested a different way to address the recent voter suppression measures. Under the 1965 Voting Rights Act, states and local governments that had a history of racist election laws had to get clearance from federal officials before they put new election rules in place. The Supreme Court gutted that rule in 2013 with the Shelby County v. Holder decision (which is why all these new laws are going into the books). Manchin called for restoring the old system of preclearance, but applying it to all states and territories, not just the nine to which it had previously applied, thus taking away the Supreme Court’s objection that it singled out certain states.

Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) immediately shot down the proposal, which suggests it has no chance of becoming bi-partisan, but to me, that rapid decision without even discussion, may allow Manchin to find a way to support at least his own plan over GOP objections, if not the entire proposed voting rights package.

And there is something to be said for having every state have to submit before allowing their changes, tbh.

Sounds like Rep. Greene is just your garden variety schoolyard bully at heart.

The more I learn about her, the less I think she has any business being in Congress or allowed to interact with those with whom she disagrees.

Democracy hard at work:

The people approve a plan, but the GOP governor rejects it.
