Yep,  the Guardian ran a piece yesterday on this group,  which references the MJ report.

And don't forget Hans von Spakovsky,  my nominee for the Heritage Foundation hack who most reminds me of a Bond villain.

http://www.vox.com/2021/5/13/22434142/israel-gaza-hamas-war-trump-biden-abraham-accords

Obviously, this is a snapshot taken in recent days, while the conflict is far longer. But it provides a sense of the current tensions that led to this flare-up on the cusp of outright war. Even if one ignores the self-serving Netanyahu's personal scenario, neither Israel nor Hamas looks particularly good. Add in this next in a series of efforts calculated to deny justice's delivery to Bibi, and it looks more like both the nation and the political/terrorist group are simply playing games with the lives of others ---> not the first nor likely the last time they will have done so.

Netanyahu has to go. So does Hamas's current leadership, if not the whole group.

Mahlagha was born in Iran, then she came here to San Diego, California. The Persians love California.

There are good people in the Middle East who we can support.

You cannot just build a wall and say that everyone is bad if they are muslim. We need to find the peaceful people who we can support, and we need to support peace in the Middle East.

We can finally stop arguing about masks.

Some of us.

Ham wants to keep doing it.

Still up to states and up to businesses what to do

And travel - while we are hopeful it is cleared up by the summer - is still a tricky issue.

Also an issue - we go anywhere pretty much without a mask if we are vaccinated.  But what is to stop someone from just saying they are?

From Heather Cox Richardson:

Quote
Manchin has suggested he will not support the For the People Act without Republican support, so yesterday, he suggested a different way to address the recent voter suppression measures. Under the 1965 Voting Rights Act, states and local governments that had a history of racist election laws had to get clearance from federal officials before they put new election rules in place. The Supreme Court gutted that rule in 2013 with the Shelby County v. Holder decision (which is why all these new laws are going into the books). Manchin called for restoring the old system of preclearance, but applying it to all states and territories, not just the nine to which it had previously applied, thus taking away the Supreme Court’s objection that it singled out certain states.

Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) immediately shot down the proposal, which suggests it has no chance of becoming bi-partisan, but to me, that rapid decision without even discussion, may allow Manchin to find a way to support at least his own plan over GOP objections, if not the entire proposed voting rights package.

And there is something to be said for having every state have to submit before allowing their changes, tbh.

The Federalist will be pooping themselves over the idea that all jurisdictions are covered jurisdictions.

I thought the covered jurisdictions of the VRA were always wayyyy underinclusive.

That is the idea behind the vaccine passports - an idea hardly without issues, but ostensibly the answer to your question.

There are folks out there printing bogus vaccine cards as it is, Kid. (Oddly enough, reported about previously here.)

We even know who is most likely to do that sort of bogus reporting and I will give you a hint: they are far more often associated with the right wing, politically, than the left or center.

What would you propose either states or the federal government do about it?

As for "still up to states and businesses," that is true except where interstate commerce is concerned. Trains, planes, and buses, at a minimum, are covered by the feds.

Sure

But talk isnt about passports - needing to carry - if not travelling by plane - is it?

In every day life - if you are not vaccinated, you cannot be certain, now that CDC has opened up to non-masking - that those not wearing one have had the shot(s).

Is this, while perfectly cool if it is not - a sort of political maneuver to get more to have the vaccine?   The clear message with the chart that is being circulated - all green as in GO on the one (vaccintaed) - and all cloudy, fuzzy with colors on the other - is  that GETTING VACCINATED = FREEDOM.

In a country where most will be vaccinated and the counts will be so low, is this fair to those who really do feel they have good reason to not vaccinate?

The same thing if they don’t get regular required vaccinations for school.
