Yes,  it's a Wag the Dog scenario (1997 film,  worth a look if you're unfamiliar).

Get Hamas (who can be vicious) riled up,  then fan the flames once you've got the unrest started,  until you've got all-out war.

Backwards .  Hamas fired the first rockets trying to rile up the Israelis.

Firing rockets was not what precipitated all this.   It was a response (a horrible one,
for sure) to escalating Israeli police conduct in East Jerusalem,  and at Temple Mount.

Josh pointed out Wag the Dog isn't a good analogy.   I agree -- I was just drawing a parallel in the use of war as distraction by a corrupt pol.   RW Israelis knew what they were doing in E.  Jerusalem.   They knew they could trigger a foolish and volatile Hamas,  and get a war.

Intergenerational crime spree is finally being brought to an end. Lock em up. Lock em all up. Then try them for treason or torture them for terrorism, whichever takes less paperwork.

This announcement was a long time in coming, but you have to believe that James wasn't going to make that announcement without her being very very sure of what she was doing.

And this takes much of the sting out of Vance's impending retirement, as well.

New York Attorney General Letitia James’s investigation into the Trump Organization is now considered a criminal matter, James’s office said Tuesday night, noting that officials with the former president’s company were recently apprised of the development.

“We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the company is no longer purely civil in nature,” said Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office. “We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA. We have no additional comment at this time.”

Israel continued its airstrikes into Gaza, leaving behind a massive mound of rebar and concrete slabs in its attack on the six-story building that housed bookstores and educational centers used by the Islamic University and other colleges. Desks, office chairs, books and computer wires could be seen in the debris. Residents sifted through the rubble, searching for their belongings.

Israel warned the building’s residents ahead of time, sending them fleeing into the predawn darkness, and there were no reports of casualties.

“The whole street started running, then destruction, an earthquake,” said Jamal Herzallah, a resident of the area. “This whole area was shaking.”

Since 2012, Hamed al-Ijla had run a training center in the building, teaching first aid, hospital management and other skills to thousands of students. The only things remaining were a pile of red first aid bags, medical coats wrapped in plastic and one box of surgical gloves....

Utterly senseless.

Then you don't understand Hamas.

You don’t understand Bibi and the Kahanists

You just compounded your ignorance.

My tv news:

"US govt admits UFOs are real."

Mmm...little green men with extraordinary powers could be visiting my area tonite.
Frightening!

UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object, so it is trivially true that there are flying objects which are unidentified.   The government is not saying they are spacecraft piloted by extraterrestrials.

Well someone must be piloting them.

What else did anyone expect was going to happen?

Israel ...'The Jewish State'..is "The Jews Last Stand"...there's nowhere else for them to go.
Earthquake?
Wait till Israel starts firing moabs and foabs...all that's left of Gaza will be ash.
