A federal judge demonstrating lack of cluefulness - comparing an AR-15 to a Swiss army knife:

I suspect that this will get overturned on appeal's court level. I have no bets on SCOTUS's take. Thomas wants to take on this issue, but Roberts really doesn't - the Court has been ducking these issues hard and fast for years.

The combination of bigotry and cluelessness is stunning.

The combination of bigotry and cluelessness is stunning.

Given the choice between violating his religious beliefs or making his team mates run punishment drills is a despicable attempt at motivation.

These “coaches” should never be allowed around children again.

Note bene:

While not mentioned in the article I’m gonna go on a limb and say THIS is an example of “black on black crime.”

A federal judge demonstrating lack of cluefulness - comparing an AR-15 to a Swiss army knife:
If you are searching for somebody clueless I suggest you look in the mirror.

Maybe a refresher course in reading comprehension could help you.

Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment," Benitez said in the ruling. "Firearms deemed as 'assault weapons' are fairly ordinary, popular, modern rifles."

In fact the decision squares perfectly with the 2008  SCOTUS Heller landmark decision with Justice Scalia laying down the precedent
The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home…

Two years later SCOTUS extended that ruling to bar States from infringing on the right to bear arms in self-defense:

The Court  “incorporated” the Second Amendment as also applying to the states through the 14th Amendment’s Due Process Clause. “It is clear that the Framers and ratifiers of the Fourteenth Amendment counted the right to keep and bear arms among those fundamental rights necessary to our system of ordered liberty,” ( Justice Samuel ) Alito said. “A provision of the Bill of Rights that protects a right that is fundamental from an American perspective applies equally to the Federal Government and the States.”

District of Columbia vs. Heller-2008
McDonald vs. Chicago -2010

Justice Roberts was in the majority for both decisions.

If Alito is invoking an "American perspective, " on self-defense in the home,  then the perspective revealed by opinion polls would not be favoring assault-style weapons,  no matter how popular they are with the segment of the population we call gun enthusiasts.  Popularity has never been a good argument,  especially when the popularity of the AR15 has been mainly a result of fear-mongering forms of mass merchandising to a conservative minority.  The 2nd Amendment was notably free of specifics,  which has always meant it's up to each century to develop reasonable interpretations.   Neither the Framers,  nor the later amendments, have much to say about what sorts of weapons should be arms borne by civilians.  We the people have said no to sawed off shotguns, machine guns,  bazookas,  grenade launchers,  and a dozen other options that would certainly beef up home defense or citizen militias.  Clearly some better logic has been behind those legal limits.

Conservative justices are the kind of gun nuts who shoot the whole country in the dick with their mistaken and careless handling of firearms.

They are all part of the Russian terror campaign. They can be sent back to Putin on a slow boat along with the bloody beaten pulp that is today’s NRA.

I have to agree with him.

And OMG, Manchin - wake up!

Lord save us from fucking “Moderate” democrats. They fuck us over every goddamn time.

This is a pull quote*

*”For some reason, moderate Democrats to this day insist the party must “reach across the aisle” and “compromise” to “get things done” despite a decade of empirical evidence there is no compromise with Republicans other than total capitulation.

That’s the recent history, but the Democratic Party and its consultant class are still making the same mistakes they’ve made since 1964, trying to win the mythical votes of the white working class. Democrats expect the 90 percent of the black vote to come their way, but rather than making sure to turn out MORE black voters they always try to gain the votes of people who haven’t voted for them since Lyndon Johnson was elected in 1964. Johnson signed civil rights and voting rights legislation and the majority of white voters left the party never to return.”

Building the high speed train between Bakersfield and Merced was stupid, they should have built the high speed rail between Lancaster and Los Angeles first. They are building the train out in the middle of nowhere, there are no people out there. Los Angeles is where the people are. But, I guess Merced does not need to remain a small town, people can develop Merced, and the homeless people can be sent to Merced, and there can be retirement housing in Merced, and new immigrants can go to Merced, etc. People can build up and develop Merced. And Bakersfield is growing quickly. We can populate and develop the Central Valley of California. And we can work with UNICEF to send refugees to the Central Valley, etc. And there is a lot of farm work, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_High-Speed_Rail

I think the next high speed train should be between Lancaster and Los Angeles. We also need a high speed train between Anaheim and Las Vegas.

And Los Angeles needs to continue to expand their subway system.

Salute,

Tony V.
