I addressed your point.  They have to represent what they perceive to be their constituency and believe it or not, and even if you argue that they also need to consider their conscience, some actual, real-live Democrats don't think the way you do.

Missing your point?  No.  You not answering my question?  Definitely.

The legislation will be passed, eventually.  And it likely won't be in the form you want it.  And then we can discuss the "something is better than nothing" position that you now seem to be taking.

And I guess that will also be the time to revisit my question.

I am not yet convinced that the legislation will be passed during this Congress and if it isn't, it may be a long long time before anything gets passed, especially any important voting reform.

President Bush likened the 1/6 raiders to the 9/11 hijackers.

President Bush has lost the plot.
Some ex-political leaders seem to make controversial statements so people don't forget them.

Yank has raised a nuanced point about the political calculus of drifting center.   I think the legislation you obtain when the centrists balk at full throttle progressive bills  is a case of "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. "  Larry raises the.reasonable question of how much good are half-measures.  I really can't tell.   I don't think there was ever much chance that senators from states like WV or AZ were going to keep their pink tutus on once elected.  I doubt WV would have ever elected a Democrat if it weren't for their coal miner/Mother Jones heritage which still generates some sort of legacy loyalty among working class folk.   I suspect that would cave in pretty quick if Manchin went full prog.

Democrats went half in on Obamacare and did not convince enough people good healthcare was not socialism so they got shellacked.

Try killing ACA now.

Same with reconciliation and voting rights bills.

Half assed will not do.

The fact the GOP has declared war on our Democracy seems to have escaped you.

I have not  addressed your question the way you want me to.

So. No.

I do not want Republicans in their seats. But I would rather REAL Republicans than these ersatz bi partisan poseurs.

During the pandemic and against all types of hurdles the people of the USA voted in droves for Joe Biden and then the folks in Georgia moved heaven and earth to give the Dems a Senate majority only to have MODERATES cock block America future over some bullshit philosophy neither can truly articulate.

That The legislation they are  fighting over was first passed in 1870 and then not enforced until 1965 and then gutted in 2013 and 2021 means shit to you it means EVERYTHING to me.

It is not your right to the franchise that is being threatened again and again.

But then again, you got pissed with me over something I have been saying in here for years, I do not fear Al Qaeda I fear Al Cracka who proved on 1/6 Democracy means shit to them.

Achtung, bitches

People in America don't have to know where Norway is ...or Indonesia, Kuwait, Fiji, Guam, Amsterdam.
Don't have to know or care if Australia is next to Germany, or Austria is at the bottom of the globe...or if France is next to India.
Don't have to vote...don't have to know anything about politics or who is the President.
Oh what a luxury.
The nukes, air force, navy, army, marines protect them.

I'm not the one getting pissed.  I'll be perfectly happy with the bill that will pass and the Republicans (the actual ones) having to explain voting against.

Half assed will not do. Is that your position?

I do agree with your earlier analysis:

Pass the legislation and then brag about it. Something beats nothing.

Which one is it?

That The legislation they are  fighting over was first passed in 1870 and then not enforced until 1965 and then gutted in 2013 and 2021 means shit to you

If you were as certain in your arguments that you seem to believe you are, you wouldn't make up bullshit that the threat to the franchise doesn't "mean shit to" me.

Thanks to Fac, for the Vox interview,  and also Josh,  for trenchant response - it does seem we've been lied to.

When will we learn that American exceptionalism, and exporting values by force,  is what breeds terrorism rather than prevents it.
What values did we export by force?
