But then again, you got pissed with me over something I have been saying in here for years, I do not fear Al Qaeda I fear Al Cracka who proved on 1/6 Democracy means shit to them.

I'm not the one getting pissed.  I'll be perfectly happy with the bill that will pass and the Republicans (the actual ones) having to explain voting against.

Half assed will not do. Is that your position?

I do agree with your earlier analysis:

Pass the legislation and then brag about it. Something beats nothing.

Which one is it?

That The legislation they are  fighting over was first passed in 1870 and then not enforced until 1965 and then gutted in 2013 and 2021 means shit to you

If you were as certain in your arguments that you seem to believe you are, you wouldn't make up bullshit that the threat to the franchise doesn't "mean shit to" me.

Why dont you tell us where you got  that Chris Rock quote from so we can look it up ourselves? Youve been referring to it for years, in a perverse way to justify your bigotry, so it should be easy to find.

I edited this by removing quotes and apostrophes.

I said the legislation is something. Pass it and and brag about and it is a sure fire winner over what the GOP is offering which is nothing.

Watering it down to appease Republicans is just stupid when you do have the numbers. Why are the Moderates Democrats fighting the rest of the Dems?

Why weaken  or even consider weakening voter access?

The idea of compromising on a bill to guarantee rights that are being decimated by the GOP as we speak does not strike me you feel the same urgency as I.

What does my post to Bambu have to do with this discussion?

Okay.  So you're just guessing.  That's fine.

There is no Heritage Romneycare version of election reform and voter protection to build from in this case.

Since Nixon republicans have been about and only about confining elections to the least and worst among us.

They feel the same way about wealth as they do about the franchise so the republican economic ideas are all too crap to work with as well.

Since republicans reflexively call any push toward minimally decent and reasonable behavior tyranny there will be no more push back for going big than there will be for offering up half a loaf.

My statement regarding the quote was in response to Bambu's oft-stated belief that Chris Rock declared hatred for white people. Post 14204:

Bambu:  That Black comedian spoke from the stage:

"Black people hate White people".

That somebody disagreeing with you sends you back to a month-old post that you fail to correctly relay is troubling.  So what is your POV?  That I'm yet another racist?  Well, then you're a liar, paranoid or don't read well.  How's that for a POV? Go back and read the entire series of posts.  Then you can apologize if you'd like. Or not. I'll even accept an apology in a private message if you prefer to maintain your dignity.   I don't care.

Yank got there first

Both of you were pointing out that taking the premise of a comedic bit as a sociological fact is a bit sketchy

In Bambis case it is the most accurate and informative way he ever gets any news

Chris Rock sets him far straighter than any number of his radio hosts

Well.

I certainly read that incorrectly!

My bad.

For that I apologize unreservedly.

But Moderate Democrats are a clear and present danger.

Yank has raised a nuanced point about the political calculus of drifting center.   I think the legislation you obtain when the centrists balk at full throttle progressive bills  is a case of "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. "  Larry raises the.reasonable question of how much good are half-measures.  I really can't tell.   I don't think there was ever much chance that senators from states like WV or AZ were going to keep their pink tutus on once elected.  I doubt WV would have ever elected a Democrat if it weren't for their coal miner/Mother Jones heritage which still generates some sort of legacy loyalty among working class folk.   I suspect that would cave in pretty quick if Manchin went full prog.

Democrats went half in on Obamacare and did not convince enough people good healthcare was not socialism so they got shellacked.

Try killing ACA now.

Same with reconciliation and voting rights bills.

Half assed will not do.

This is worth discussion -- why won't a half assed voting rights bill do?  Would not just the ban on gerrymandering be extremely valuable?  Or give up the fight against voter ID for now,  but get something that shields county election boards from overthrow by state legislatures?  Half an ass doesn't rule out  getting the other half later.

If the levee is about to break,  you bulldoze as fast as you can,  not sit around waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to drop in a new levee.

The terrorists attacked the World Trade Center because they did not want us to expand world trade. When we create honest jobs and help to pull people out of poverty then they become less susceptible to bad things such as illegal drugs and extremist religious points of view, etc. People who are fat and happy with a good job are less likely to become criminals and are less likely to go along with Al Queda and their bullshit. Poverty is a huge source of pain and suffering, and Al Queda does not want people to be happy with a good job and plenty of money for a good life. Al Queda does not want people to be happy with a good job.

In Somalia the Muslims fought us because we wanted to go in and feed the hungry people, the Extremist Muslims want the people to be poor and hungry so they will become soldiers for their bullshit, and suicide bombers, etc. People with a good job and who are happy are not going to go out and blow themselves up for Al Queda.

We need to defy Al Queda and we need to continue to create world trade, and we need to help to create good jobs in Latin America, etc, and we need to reduce poverty and suffering in the world.

I fully support having world trade, and a good world economy, and everything that the World Trade Center stood for, and I support helping to pull Latin America out of poverty, etc. I support good jobs, and healthy civilization.

Salute,

Tony V.

That's not why.

They attacked it because it was a hugely visible target and would get a lot of attention.

Where are the 10 GOP votes coming from for voting rights?

If the GOP votes are not forthcoming why bother negotiating the bill down to half measures?
