Instead of raising taxes on Americans, we need to raise tariffs on imports.

The port in Long Beach, California, is the busiest it has ever been, more imports are arriving than ever before.

In the early history of the USA, we ran on tariffs from imports until the first World War. Having tariffs on imports without taxing the Americans helped American businesses to grow and thrive, and helped U.S. companies to create jobs here in the USA.

Raising tariffs on goods from China, Vietnam, Japan, etc, and keeping taxes low for Americans, would be good for the U.S. economy.

Instead of raising taxes on Americans, we need to raise tariffs on imports.

Raising tariffs on imports is in essence raising taxes on Americans.

1) Prices on products Americans buy go up, costing them more money.

2) As those foreign products raise their prices, so too do their American competitors, because it is pure profit for them.

3) When we put tariffs on their products, they put tariffs on our products, making it harder for their citizens to buy, which hurts our businesses.

4) Frequently, they put bigger tariffs on more of ours than we did theirs, costing us far more than we gain.

KC,

Most political forums do not welcome posts without reasoning, i.e. with simple contradiction.  Since you're not established as some final authority on public affairs, why should we accept your ruling on Oilcan that he's wrong "of course..."

You also skipped his first direct question to you, on whether election officials also deserve a "fair shake."

Bernie whined that TWO senators scrapped his socialistic agenda.
Actually it was scuttled by 52 Senators.

You could not be more wrong about tariffs.

A tariff levied by the U.S is paid by the US importer of the foreign product and then passed along to the U.S consumer. A $5 Korean widget with a $1 tariff will now cost $6 or more in the U.S.

And as already posted, foreign countries can and usually retaliate by placing tariffs on US made products. Higher prices hurt demand and hurts trade.

Many historians and economists believe the Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930, which enabled tariffs on foreign goods to protect US business deepened and extended the Great Depression.

If you want to see the ports in Cal busy, and people working on the docks, then you should be against tariffs.
