Chicago has a police problem.
Or at least a police union problem. I listened to a report on NPR that made the issue sound pretty familiar. I wonder how much of that is posturing around the City's refusal to negotiate the vaccine rules rather than issues with the vaccine itself.

A lot.   Really doubt fifty percent of cops are going to refuse vax.

And making it a privacy issue, pfft.   Its not like people are having privacy-sensitive medical procedures reported.   Its just a fucking jab, like many public servants in many areas have been required to do for various diseases for decades.

They dont like when you say "jab".  Its a word for idiots.

" jab" is good word...the word of the People..."double-jabbed".

We all have what Karl Jung called a shadow self.   That hidden self wants to do terrible things,  be violent, cunning, selfish,  greedy, rapacious,  etc.   The way we grow up and make friends with that shadow self is by recognizing it exists and negotiating with it so that we can harness its strengths and control its impulses.  Children who never learn about the darker self of humanity,  who are sheltered from the past emergences of the dark side,  risk being overtaken and overthrown by it.   Even long ago,  people understood this,  and made dark fairy tales for children to get them, in a fairly secure space,  prepared for that greedy violent ape that lives within.  Children beyond the fairy tale phase, like 4th grade and up,  can begin to learn some of the dark history mixed in with the light - its incredibly important to becoming a whole person.

Childrens books on the Holocaust and on slavery are unnecessary.  Yes.

Write the books, get them past the govt censor...sell them in bookstores...let parents/guardians decide what their children read.

Such books in schools?
Not until the students are at least 15+.
Students would probably be better off studying geography books...learning that the largest country in South America is not Africa.

Teach little kiddies about the Holocaust?....stand by for the nightmares, depression, mental illness that will most likely follow.
Ditto slavery.

Children deserve a childhood.
Not nature videos where Bambi is torn apart by lions, either.

So Red, what is a worse problem, temporary supply chain issues, or 10% unemployment? Klain thinks the second is worse.

Childrens books on the Holocaust and on slavery are unnecessary.  Yes.

If you do not teach them early, kids will miss the chance to curb stomp genocidal white folks into oblivion before those Christian nationalists finish sharpening their knives.

Books on the Holocaust and on slavery and the current American carceral state should be in every classroom along with posters of McGruff the Crime Dog and Uncle Sam saying

Only you can prevent another January 6.

No.

But that was not what she was saying, Kid.

Not even a good dodge.

Late last year, one of those parents complained when her daughter brought home a copy of This Book Is Anti-Racist by Tiffany Jewell from her fourth grade teachers class library. The mother also complained about how the teacher responded to her concerns

Carroll administrators investigated and decided against disciplining the teacher. But last week, on Oct. 4, the Carroll school board voted 3-2 to overturn the districts decision and formally reprimanded the teacher, setting off unease among Carroll teachers who said they fear the board wont protect them if a parent complains about a book in their class.

They shouldnt BE protected 100%.  There has to be oversight.

Oversight doesn't mean not protecting them.

Protecting them doesn't mean no oversight.

And oversight to reprimand a teacher for that book is not "oversight." This is a system that wants nothing that mentions the existence of bias.

THAT is an oversight.
