Sad news from England. An MP stabbed to death at a meeting with constituents in his district. Used to be seen as fairly safe for MPs to mix with constituents there. And that was good for democracy. Today's killing was another attack on it.
Jo Cox was stabbed and shot multiple times by a far right extremist in 2016.
Yeah, I thought of her when I saw this. Somewhere around 10 - 15 years ago, this was almost unheard of, but then around 2010 there was an attack (that guy survived) and then Cox in 2016. Looks like security for MPs may change.
Odd that this MP, David Amess, was seen as a kind gentle soul, huge animal rights supporter, well liked, not the sort to have enemies, not making policies that would arouse terrorists - unless the terrorist was angry at Conservatives generally and he was an easy target.
