We cannot punish the White people of today for what some White people did in the past, just the same as we cannot punish the Japanese people of today for Pearl Harbor, and they cannot punish us for the bombs. We are a new generation, with new challenges. Instead of living in the past, and trying to punish people for the sins of their race from way in the past, we need to live in the present and we need to deal with the challenges of the present.

Right now the streets are full of homeless people, and the jobs are all leaving the country. We need to deal with these issues now. It does not help a hungry homeless person on the street to give them a history lesson on something that was ended in the 1860s, and remember that many White people died fighting for the North to free the slaves, and California never had slavery.

My ancestors lived in New York during the Civil War, and in Indiana, and in Kentucky. None of my ancestors owned slaves. And my people were good Christians who fought against slavery.

We need to deal with the crisis of today, which is a bad economy and homeless people. Our jobs are all leaving the country, and our streets are full of homeless people, that is what we must deal with, here and now, instead of being pissed off about something that ended in the 1860s.

We need to live in the here and now, and we need to deal with the challenges of our time.

Salute,

Tony V.

What does HamSammy want?

Respect, Acknowledgement, Approval?  WTF do you want, Ham?

Clearly you don't know who you're dealing with.

Same as the rest.

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

Looks like a lot of uncertainty as to what the proposed new Public Safety department will be,  and if it will supply enough armed officers on the North Side.   I can sympathize with the confusion.

Clearly, so what do you want?  And whom am I dealing with?

Simple, direct, honest questions.

Some questions have already been answered.

Some don't deserve answers.

Some should be asked of others.

I'm not here to .meet my wants.

I'm here to fulfill the needs of others and to give some exactly what they deserve.

The professor is not a black supremacist. Sonny Carson, now that guy was a black supremacist!

I am as Jewish as Harrison Ford.

DC layabout?

I will have you know I am a retired man of leisure who happens to live in the US capital city.

Just watched a YouTube video...
"Most embarrassing DUI stop of this Trooper's career?"

Black trooper ...youngish, tallish, strongish.
Back female driver...youngish, tallish, strongish.
Trooper has her do walk the line test, then breath test on hand held machine.
Woman failed test, trooper told her to put hands behind back so he could cuff her, she resisted, kept pulling hands away and moving away, he kept taking her arms in a respectful manner, trying to put them behind her back.
She kept breaking free.
She walked quickly to her SUV, saying "I'll just get my husband on the phone", he went to passenger window from which he interviewed her initially.
She started the car and drove out of the carpark and disappeared into the night, not to be seen again.
He chased but could not find her.
How embarrassment!

Wonder what the polce rule book states about this as far as what force is allowed to be used on anyone resisting arrest?

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/31/us/police-traffic-stops-killings.html

LB,  it would be helpful if the police, taken as a whole, would clarify for
the public want they prefer as the routine expected during a traffic stop.

When I was young I always exited the car, if pulled over,  and walked around to the other side of the car.  This did two things:  It let the officer see I was not going to try and speed away, and that I had nothing in my hands.  If I had a coat on, I opened it or took it off.

At some point in time, it became the expectation that the drivers should never exit the vehicle.
I think that is a mistake and that it has led to officers being overly aggressive as the NYT article
you posted describes.  The prevalence of guns everywhere also contributes to the itchy fingers
of too many officers.

Here a thought: public servants communicating with its public!

No itchy fingers

Cops do not pull their guns at traffic stops

Thanks for the praise of my cartoons.  Crayons?  What I hear you saying is 'add color'.
I have used watercolor on occasion, will be incorporating more color soon. Thanks.

So, you want to "fulfill the needs of others and give them exactly what they deserve".

I will certainly "think about it", but an immediate prior question begs to be asked:
How do you know the needs of others in cyberspace and decide what some deserve?

Meanwhile, I need to find a new columnist from a legit newspaper that  I can look forward
to reading like Rusell Baker, Mike Royko and Murray Kempton and William Safire's "On Language".
Any suggestions? Thanks.

And thanks for answering my questions.

How do you know the needs of others in cyberspace and decide what some deserve?  Experience is a great teacher.

It administers the punishment first, and then the lesson.

Let's just say I have a lot of experience.

I am not here for affirmation or applause, confirming my beliefs or gathering "friends".

But that makes me the exception here, not the rule.

Stay tuned.

As for a good columnist, they are hard to find, but Will Bunch in the Philly INquirer is usually interesting though a bit unhinged at times, and Jason L, Riley at the WSJ entertains.

There are no Cal Trillans left in the world, sadly.

Oh really!  Read the NYT article and get back to me.

And I have seen them draw guns and handcuff drivers!

Not on the initial stop.  No.

Cops do not pull their guns at traffic stops

I guess getting stopped and arrested at gunpoint in Goochland VA did not actually happen

Being held at gunpoint on Merrick Rd In Amityville was just a bad dream.

Having State Troopers draw weapons on me and my wife on the Southern State parkway ...

Nah, that NEVER happened.

Well it was just my imagination
Running away with me...

All dependent on the actions of man or woman pulled over

Cop would only have weapon drawn initially if they knew or suspected occupant of vehicle was armed and dangerous.

Bullshit

I have been pulled over more than once because I fit the description and those stops began with an approach with guns drawn.
