A case can be made that the USA should have imposed sanctions 6a lot sooner.
The sanctions could have been imposed earlier.
Yet there are signs they are causing pain in Russia .


Russia stock market and currency took historic blows in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, signs that the threat of Western sanctions is inflicting an immediate, though hard to assess, impact on the national economy.
In the hours after tanks rolled across the border and Russian planes struck targets inside Ukraine, the Russia stock market lost nearly half of its value before a partial rebound that still left it down by a third at the close of trading. The ruble fell 8% against the dollar, its biggest drop since the March 2020 Covid 19 market panic.
Lines formed at ATMs in Moscow and Sberbank, the largest bank by assets, tried to reassure customers that their funds were safe despite threats from the U.S. that the bank may be sanctioned next. Sberbank shares fell by nearly half.
 
And in other parts of the country plenty of protests .

I guess I should have been able to figure it all out since those typos are similar to mine.
In any event the purpose of sanctions is to bring severe economic pain and to stop aggression, they cannot be symbolic or incremental.
When Russian Oligarchs start hurting so will the common folk. See the decade of 1980 to remember what happened to the USSR.

Until the West cracks down on the bevy of rich Putin cronies the existing sanctions will not mean much. These oligarchs have been investing worldwide while Western leaders look the other way in welcoming their money. 

The WSJ opines that it is past time to make them choose between loyalty to Putin or democracy:

Serious sanctions would bar every Russian connected to the regime from entering the U.S., Europe and the U.K., and seize their foreign holdings. The restrictions should extend to every wife, child, mistress, cousin, uncle, nephew and close friend they have. Universities will not like it but students related to an oligarch should have their visas revoked.

My doctor retired, and now the best I can get is a nurse practitioner, there is a huge shortage of doctors. There is also a huge shortage of psychiatrists and lab workers. We need to train more doctors here in the USA.

If we want to have medical care for all Americans, then we need to train more doctors.

Rubio is telling people to be welders instead of going to college, and that will not help us with the shortage of doctors. You do not even need to be able to read and write to weld, anyone can weld, we need doctors.

We can also build medical schools in the Philippines and we can train doctors from the Philippines for the USA, and we can build labs in the Philippines, etc.

And of course we have the Navy and others helping to train doctors.

We need to help our smart youth to grow up to become doctors, if the young people show aptitude then we need to support them while they go to school to become doctors.

And right now, we have homeless people who are completely wasting any talent that they might possess, we need to get them into housing, and get them medical care and psychiatric care, etc, and then they can contribute to society. As we help more people then we will need more doctors and more psychiatrists.

Many jobs left the nation, and the new jobs are in Health Care as the Baby Boomers are aging and as we make Health Care available for all Americans. We also want scientists to cure Cancer, etc.

We need to educate our people. Anyone can weld, we need doctors.

The fallout, encompassing Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, was a rare rebuke of a titan of the classical music industry, and it reflected growing global outrage over The Putin directed 
military offensive in Ukraine.

Mr. Gergiev, 68, a  most prominent cultural ambassador, is now being shunned because of his ties to Mr. Putin, his longtime friend and benefactor. He seems in peril of losing several key posts, including the podium in Munich and his position as honorary conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

The airport in Burbank is trying to stop our high speed train, the bastards. They are so fucking greedy that they are trying to stop the high speed trains because they think they will lose business. The same with the auto companies and the gasoline industry, etc, they all are trying to block our high speed trains. We need to build our high speed trains.

We should have built the route between Lancaster, California, and Los Angeles first, instead of between Merced and Bakersfield, but it is what it is and we need to keep building. We can build our high speed trains in many areas at once.

And we need to build our high speed train between Anaheim and Las Vegas.

Protests in Russia continued during the second day of the Putin war on Ukraine, with prominent Russians joining in major cities across the country. 
Russian authorities arrested over 1,700 individuals Thursday as citizens took to the streets of Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major cities to denounce the invasion of Ukraine and demand an end to hostilities, according to OVD Info, an independent organization monitoring political persecutions.
