One thing that I remember about Alexis de Tocqueville is one thing that he loved about America was that people could come to America and they could start fresh. The poor people from Europe could come to the USA and they could start fresh. The people in America never met the people from Europe before, so they could clean themselves up and start fresh, and people who were poor in Europe could become wealthy aristocrats in America.
Alexis loved that people could get a fresh start in America. And Christians believe in redemption, we believe that you can repent and that you can be forgiven, but you cannot be forgiven if people continue to punish you for past sins, so Alexis loved that the Europeans could come to the USA where no one knew them and where no one knew about their past sins, where the people could start fresh and where even a sinner can rise to the top.
Salute,
