Funny how supposed believers in Democracy cheer when a national election
draws only 25% of the electorate to the polls, sad day for Italy and Europe and Democracy.
In a democracy people can choose to vote or not, same as in America. [or should be able to choose]. Usually 50% of Americans don't vote.
Not in supposedly democratic bambuland...voting is compulsory, turn out to vote or else!
Turn out to the polling station, have your name crossed off the electoral roll and receive 1 or 2 ballot papers [lower House, and Senate]...go into polling booth and vote, pen and paper, then place ballot papers in relative boxes on your way out. Best not to get 'cute'...there are security staff watching for protesters/cheats etc.
Your choices on the ballot papers are private, the ballot papers folded and placed in the boxes. No identifying info on ballot papers.
Any ballot paper not filled out correctly is declared as "informal" and not counted.
Some people, angry at being made to vote, write messages on the ballot papers instead of voting properly.
Things like "get ......", Zorro!", "Foo was here"...etc.
Most people seem to attempt to vote properly.
Don't turn out and have your name crossed off and get ballot papers...you get fined by the govt.
Don't pay the fine, the govt cancels your driver licence.
Both sides of parliament like this system, seem to think it favours them.
Most people believe that "voting is compulsory" because if it weren't, only the very dedicated would bother.
Sun, sand and surf, or lining up at the polling station?
