Nothing wrong with migrants being sent to northern cities but it would be nice to get a heads up so accommodations can be prepared, you know?

Take a little trip to NYC or Chicago you will be amazed. This is just from a small influx. The schools, the hospitals, basic housing and social services, everything just overwhelmed. When did open borders become part of the democratic plank, it was not under FDR? Kamala had it right before she was quieted. Just stay home!

Advanced planning and cooperation would go a long way to problem solving, but then xenophobic assholes could not pop outrage boners.

No one says sudden influx doesn't pose problems.  Just as no one favors open borders.  Some feel there are solutions more nuanced than walls and attack dogs and xenophobic rhetoric where refugees are concerned.  Keep in mind thousands of those migrants are putting food on your table, repairing hurricane damaged roofs, etc.  Often at risk to their health.  When they don't show up to do those tough jobs, we experience scarcities due to a labor shortage.  Costs go up, maybe you have to put off fixing that leaky roof, and use cooking pots to catch drips.

In DC the mayor has contracted with hotels to house the 10,000 migrants shipped from Texas and a couple hundred kids have been enrolled in school.

But also...

Texas has thousands of federal employees in it to try to deal with the migrants and the asylum seekers. There are personnel there who track the movement of the refugees as they come to the border.

None of that was in place on Martha's Vineyard.

Why not set up a receiving program to process and then distribute to northern cities?
