Never thought of the IRS as the Police, but after being weaponized and funded for 87,000 new agents to snoop on middle aged 1040 s by Pelosi and Company I guess it makes sense that it is.

I see the first legislative priority for House Repos is to defund the police.

Then who ya gonna call when the bad people are invading your home?
...and who ya gonna call when protesters are gathering and are intent on invading the Capitol again?

The invasion of the Congress building in Brazil could've been stopped...but the govt/cops were *asleep*, not prepared for such an event.
No plan.
"Planning to make a plan is not a plan".

Absolute security protects absolutely.
Poor security, you get turned into a victim.

Defund the police?
A very bad idea.

Defund the Police is so yesterday!

Republicans want to Defund the FBI

Why?
They must have a reason.
Has the FBI become bloated, ... duplications, inefficient?

Weaponized?  They're packing heat?

So enforcing the law to have people pay what they actually owe in taxes... that's not law enforcement?

Thank goodness we have a noted legal scholar here to clear this up!

http://www.salon.com/2023/01/09/call-it-the-conspiracy-theory-congress-things-are-about-to-get-dangerously-weird-on-capitol-hill/

A crucial part of the war on democracy is a war on facts and reason. Democracy, its worth remembering, emerged as an Enlightenment ideal, and cannot be separated from other Enlightenment values, such as the importance of empiricism and the value of critical thinking. As I noted last week, the current iteration of the GOP is functionally a fascist party and adheres to the kneejerk fascist distaste for thinking, rational debate, and above all, letting facts guide your decision-making.

Because of this, theres little doubt that, over the next two years, the Republican run House will be structured not around legislative goals, but propagandistic ones. Namely, they will use the immense power and resources of the U.S. Congress to be a bullshit generating machine. Committee hearings will be built around elevating defamatory accusations against perceived political opponents and spawning Fox News and social media-friendly clips that fuel truly unhinged conspiracy theories...

Well said, Amanda!

LOL!

The IRS-CI(Civil Investigation)is the sixth-largest law enforcement agency in the US. There are about 3,000 employees in CI about 70% of whom are special agents, and they carry firearms.
But even without guns the existing IRS agents have targeted political opponents under Democrat presidents.

A batch of records from President Biden s  time as Vice President, including a small number of documents with classified markings, were discovered at the Penn Biden Center by the president s personal attorneys on Nov. 2, according to Richard Saubel, special counsel to the White House
The attorneys found the documents in a locked closet while preparing to vacate office space at the center, which the president used from mid-2017 until he began the 2020 campaign.

CBS News

The information impoverishment of this clip seems on a par with Dan Quayle's knowledge of geography.  Are we talking confidential files or top secret files with an SCI (sensitive compartmented information) rating, or something in between?  What does a small number constitute?  Did Biden's attorneys, on finding them, promptly turn them over to Archives?  Mmmm, I'm guessing they were turned over and someone picked them up and that was that.

Guessing wildly here that Biden did not steal SCIF level documents and sneak them off to his residence or instruct his aides and legal staff to obstruct their proper disposition, or leave them in an insecure household location while entertaining foreign dignitaries who might profit from their contents, or lie about some imaginary act of declassification.  Because if any of those things happened, the rest of us outside the RW bubble would probably be hearing more about this.

BTW, referencing Quayle reminds me that you all might greatly enjoy Andy Borowitz new book, Profiles in Ignorance.

Brilliant dissection of the three stages of political decline that we have witnessed since the days of Adlai Stevenson.  Interesting trail of breadcrumbs from Reagan to Trump will be of special interest.  An interesting guide to the post-truth era.  And funny as hell.

Kudos to the new House GOP for knocking out 80$billion to hire 87,000 IRS gestapos to audit average Americans.

Of course the Schumer Senate Socialists will retain the expenditure.
But at least the country has an idea of what a 2024 GOP Congress and Presidency will be about.
