If it costs a minimum of $2m to buy a home in a certain 'elite' neighbourhood, and you only have $1m, then you can't live there, even if you think you deserve to.
You have to live somewhere else.

I lived in a house in Malibu worth millions that was owned by the ex-wife of Sammy Hagar's family doctor, and one of my roommates was the daughter of a Chinese general.

Sometimes poor people can do impossible things. But, then there are the hard times too, so it is a roller coaster, peaks and valleys. You have to be able to walk with Kings without losing the common touch. And then when it gets hard one needs to remember that it can get easy again, one just needs to persevere. Just because one is poor, it does not mean that they cannot attend the elite schools and live in the great neighborhoods.
