Legitimate NL contenders if Bauer signs

And at any price this is good enough for me

1-40
3-100+
More years

whatever.

Cant miss TV times 2, with DeGrom.  I would expect in their 60 starts we win 36-42 of them.

Los Angeles Dodgers

New York Mets

Trevor Bauer

+1
At the end of a free agency that was occasionally transparent and with hints of carnival barker, Trevor Bauer on Friday reportedly came to terms on a three-year, $102 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the deal, which pays Bauer $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022, will make him the highest-paid player in MLB.

The deal reportedly includes opt-outs after the first and second seasons.

Jon Heyman first reported the agreement. The deal is contingent upon Bauer passing a physical.

Bauer also tweeted revealing his “new home.” Bauer grew up in Southern California and attended UCLA.

Wow - figured iit might be Toronto

I dont know if Bauer had any preference for NL over AL

But at 40, thern decide - and 45, then again decide - thus 85 mil guarantee over two - betting on himself - thats a ton for LA.

Would I have matched if I was NYM?  Typically no.  Dont really like being the market setter.  But would have been nice to have him in NY.

Wonder who is next on the list.  What do we do, if anything with the 30+ we would have given TB this year?

He likely used the Mets for leverage in order to stay in California.

At their prices, DeSclafani, Morton and Minor were good signs

Couple of guys named Arrietta and Hamels still on the board.

NYPOST:
Hence we rank the offseason by divisions. Not so much by perceived savvy as by sheer effort. Which divisions are the most compelling because all or enough of their members have behaved like they actually want to win this year? From most exciting to least, here you go:

1. NL East

Yep.

No doubt. Every team in that division can win it.

And nobody likes anybody.

Could be fun, if the Commissioner doesn't keep fucking up.

Major League Baseball is planning small changes to the baseball in an effort to reduce the wild year-to-year fluctuations in home run rate, report The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Eno Sarris. Last week MLB issued a memo to front offices outlining the planned changes, which are intended to deaden the ball.

Here are the gory details, from Rosenthal and Sarris:

"In an effort to center the ball with the specification range for COR and CCOR, Rawlings produced a number of baseballs from late 2019 through early 2020 that loosened the tension of the first wool winding," the memo from the office of the commissioner reads, explaining that this change had two effects — reducing the weight of the ball by less than one-tenth of an ounce, and also a slight decrease in the bounciness of the ball as measured by the COR and CCOR.

COR is the coefficient of restitution, or the relationship of the incoming speed to the outgoing speed. So, in other words, this new ball will be less bouncy.

Small changes add up. As Rosenthal and Sarris note, the Korea Baseball Organization increased the weight of its baseball less than one-twentieth of an ounce and moved the COR roughly 0.01 in 2019, and the result was a 33% decrease in home runs. That said, the KBO increased the weight of its ball, and MLB's memo indicates it will reduce the weight of its ball.

Maybe MLB can get TB12 to deflate the baseballs, now that his off-season has begun.

https://www.mlb.com/news/jonathan-villar-mets-deal

Throughout the past decade, the Mets have often invested relatively little in their bench, leaving them exposed to injuries and other maladies.

Not so this year. Days after agreeing to terms with veteran outfielder Albert Almora Jr., the Mets struck a similar Major League agreement with utility man Jonathan Villar, according to a source. The Mets have not confirmed the contract, which is worth $3.55 million plus incentives.

When it becomes official, the deal will give the Mets needed depth behind their starters at second base, third base, shortstop, left and center field. Villar has played all those positions throughout his eight-year career, serving mostly as a middle infielder but providing versatility elsewhere.
