You left out Jeter on the list of players who have been accused of being compilers.

My favorite Al Kaline fact is that he holds the record for most career home runs among players who never hit 30 or more in a year, 399. Plus 3 in the postseason.

I think Kaline was very, very good at literally everything except defense, where he was exceptional, and stealing bases and staying healthy, where he was not. If that makes him a compiler, so be it. He remained a solid contributor in terms of WAR and OPS+ until the end of his career.

Which makes the term "compiler" either inapplicable or meaningless.

And in a anecdote that illustrates how different baseball has become - not.worse, not better, different. In the early 70's, when Detroit wanted to make him their first $100,000.00 player, he originally turned the offer down. Not because he wanted more money, but because he did not think he deserved that much:

I was joking, of course.

It was a knock on other posters who have done the same with the guys I mentioned

Kaline wasnt a league leader very often (1 batting title) yet amassed a very impressive number of top 5/10 MVP ranks.

Yes, quite well-rounded - and I would in fact use the G word for him.

Sadly, like Jim Ed Rice, lost his .300 career average due to his last 1-2 years.

Well, the question is if they'd still go ahead if the union vote is YES but 20% of the players say no and will opt to stay home.

My guess is sure - just wondering how much of a pay cut they decide on for each player.
