You can't be infuriated if you had the chance to take a better deal.

The players already accepted that better deal. Ownership came back for more. You can be infuriated that your negotiating partner reneged on a good faith agreement about how to adjust salaries due to the pandemic.

I totally agree with your take on this.

The players have no reason ever to consider that the owners are acting in good faith. That has been proven time and again throughout baseball history.

Owners have the hammer.  They can just say FUCK IT - we will play 48 games and have just ten playoff teams.

Seems to me this was collectively bargained.

I dont think this is part of the package - no.

So the owners have proposed a proportional pay scale (ie 48/162) which accounts for just the regular season, and pay a fraction of their labor costs, but want to reap almost all the revenues of the higher rated and far more valuable post-season TV package, and which most players would not be comensated for (and there is no gate receipts for the palayers to divvy up) ?

If that's correct you might say that was unfair to the players on its face.

The owners propsed 76 games, 75% prorated pay

The fallback - which Martino says nobody wants - is 100% prorated pay but just 48 games.

Playoff teams get extra regardless but under MLB's proposal there are SIXTEEN making it, not ten.

Why 75% of an already pro-rated salary?

Again I think the real money is in the back end post-season TV money. and players have generally not been comped for the post-season beyond a small fractiom of the gate revs.

All organizations and most people have fixed costs, mortgage, car payments, utilities, etc, have no revenue.

MLB teams can probably fund themselves for awhile with bank lines

Its too bad MLB teams fired a lot of their minor league players, maybe they could hire them back at a lower costs, dress them up fora few months and PLAY BALL!

I'd have to see the #s but in general for a guy making the average MLB salary of about $4MM and getting prorated (76/162) and then taking a 25% or 50% haircut

$4M X .47 pro-rate X .75 discount  = or 1.4M

last year the WS share for the Nats was $382,000

this year I'm assuming it would be lower as there will be no gate.

And I think but am not positive there is no TV money in the post-season payout.

that's the gravy the owners want to keep.

So the average guy is looking at giving up $1.4 million and maybe some post-season bonus to keep the owners solvent until 2021 and taking the health risks CV-19?

btw I could use a 25% 50% or 75% haircut.

Rogers: Not likely, especially with the playoff caveat that would lower the amount if no postseason is played. The no draft-pick compensation is a nice carrot, but that's all it is. Bottom line: The players aren't making that much more than from the 50-game possibility that exists
