Watch this opening scene of Les Miserables, 1935 edition, released in the heart of the Depression.

Appreciate how the scene is set, the juxtaposition of the statue of Justice and the Crucifix, and March's eloquent speech then slowing turning into fear then ultimately outrage and panic.

I'd like to think that managers would be given a break because of the weirdness of the season, but I'm not sure that sentiment is one that owners have.

I think some will and some won't, but I also think it depends on the team. Didn't look to me as if Reonicke was any readier to be in charge this time than he was last time.

For the Yankees, it's got to be frustrating to have all that power and all those arms and to get to the post-season but repeatedly get edged out. But how do you blame Aaron Boone for Chapman's getting beaten there? Who else should he have had in at that exact moment? He's pitched 4 innings going into that last fateful one without giving up a run in the postseason. And how is he to blame for a team that had averaged 7.5 runs per game before scoring 1?

But... they're barely above .500 in the postseason.

And their free agent list is pretty daunting for a team that led the majors in this abbreviated season's salaries.
