Sorry to spoil your party - I think 38 gets into the HOF soon.

Given who else is in there with political foibles, it's hard to see a consistent reason to keep him out.

Not that I find the HoF voters to be especially consistent.

And there's the rub. NO SPORTSWRITER should be involved with putting players in the HOF.

Especially those who can not see that putting someone as indecent a person, as bigoted, as racist, and as narcissistic as this one. The excuse of saying "given who else is in there" is just that. An excuse. There is no need to perpetuate mistakes that have been made in the past.

We've had this discussion a few billion times and you've never made a case that there is a more impartial or less conflicted body or learned body to judge a player's worthiness to enter the HoF.

Because you can't.

Schilling's politics are abhorent and he seems from what little I know of him to be a racist-fascsit nut, which, may or may not trigger the BB writers to vote against him on the basis of his breaching the HoF's "character" clause.

which reads: "voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played."

As I recall during his playing days the greatest knock on the guy was he liked the spotlght and the microphone too much. His politics as far as I know during his playing days were never an issue. And as far as I know the other big character issue which has kept other guys out, PEDS, is not a factor with Schilling.

as an aside without the character issue, IMO he should probably get in, but I'm still not sure how I'd vote.

But speaking of baseball and character issues and the HoF, today I got this from MLB and one of their partners

This may trigger another one of your favorite arguments.

You may find a more sympathetic ear.

MLB's hypocrisy is pretty funny.

I'm sure there are far worse people than Curt Schilling in the HOF.

Perpetuating wrongs doesn't make a right.

He doesn't belong.

Excellent piece on why "Red-light" Schilling needs to be allowed by the BBWAA to fade to black. Unrepentant racists have no place in the HOF.
Ty Cobb?

Damage done. But more damage doesn't have to be done.
