It's a solid comp, no matter the math.

Two, maybe three less Boston Hall of Famers.

Fewer than what?

I didn't think either of them was set for the HoF.

Four, actually - including Manny

That you dont think Nomar or Pedroia make the Hall if they hadnt the injuries (if this IS what you are saying) speaks to

a)  your insistence on being contrarian

or

b)  your being quite unwise

Not what I'm saying.

I'm saying that given the careers as they ended, if they make the Hall it will be a surprise to me.

I agree. But IMO Pedroia has a shot, IMO he was the best fielding 2nd baseman in baseball for about 10 years,  a .300 hitter, and had the resume to support a vote.

He's no Chase Utley.

It's true.

How many Gold Gloves did Utley win?

How many MVPs?

I can't quite remember.

An honest reckoning shows Utley is the better player.

You lose.

Interesting.  Nothing about defense there.  I must have missed it I guess.  I'm kind of surprised that a guy who yells and screams that using the DH isn't "real baseball" leaves out defense in his "analysis" of who's a better player.

If Utley could've played his career in the Bronx, with days off to just DH, you'd be singing a different tune.

It's defense was fine. But his leadership, ability to endure, hit for power, etc, are superior to Dustbin's.

What tune am I singing?  I like the DH.  Utley was a  mediocre second baseman far below Pedroia's class.

Clearly. on this subject, you're either ignorant, or biased. Or both.

JAWS.

  Utley's number 11, ALL-TIME.

Dustbin? 9 places behind.

WAR. Utley is number 15 ALL TIME. Dustbin? 22.

dWAR? Utley #11, ALLTIME. Dustbin? 17.

oWAR? Utley is #17 ALLTIME. Dustbin? 32.

It's not really taking away from Dustbin's career to show objectively that Utley was the better player.

Dustbin had an impactful career. He's just not as good a player as Utley, no matter what your loathing of the NL, Philadelphia, etc, tells you.

Take a seat now, Yank.

The initial point re Pedroia was the impact on his counting stats caused by his injuries. Basically he was done by age 33, Utley accumulated stats until he was close to 40.

Pedroia was the better hitter, fielder and player.

Utley hit more HRs.
