Couple of great games against NY teams, last night. A FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND WIN in Citi Field for the Phightin's and a Bosox extra-inning win against the flagging Bombers.

Keep it going, everyone. A series win by both Boston and Philly will send the NY baseball fans into a tizzy.

Well, he and Big Papi, HOF PED user, have that Dominican thing going on, so this is no surprise.

Dominicans are among the highest PED users.

I just finished Won in the Ninth by Christy Mathewson.

I'd not realized that he was an author during his pitching days, but it looks as if he wrote at least a dozen books then and later, mostly for children.

In this, his first book (1910, when he was 30), he talks about "inside baseball" and the importance of "signals." Won in the Ninth follows the Lowell University team through a season, from January through June. I am sure, given the title of the book, that you cannot guess how their season ends!

I would imagine that Mathewson, by all accounts a very smart man, nevertheless used a ghostwriter.

Great game at Citi Field tonight. Nola pitched a complete game gem, and lost to the Mets 1-0, on a flare to right field in the first inning. deGrom pitched his usual 6 innings, and Diaz looked human in the ninth, but held on for the save.

At any rate, the Phightins have showed they're not intimidated, and they toss Wheeler (who has been recently described as deGrom Lite) tomorrow in the rubber match.

Best series in MLB this season...so far.

And refreshing to see these games, with great pitching, well played defense (the double play in the 8th by the Phils was brilliant), and all in  2.5 hours.

Fundamentally, another great game. Hoping for another one tomorrow. Too bad Keith Hernandez is missing out.

(a) The Red Sox have now won a series against an AL East opponent. The 1 game with the Orioles was not a series.

(b) 2 hours, 15 minutes, for an entire Red Sox - Yankees game! I wonder when the last time they managed that was, without rain.
