Harper gets bakers dozen with the Phillies.

13/330 no opt outs.

According to Jeff Passan

"Bryce Harper’s deal with the Philadelphia Phillies will be for $330 million, a new record for overall dollars, topping the $325 million of Giancarlo Stanton, league sources tell ESPN."

whether this is "stupid money" remains to be seen.

A dumb-ass deal.  He turned down 300 over 10 years for this?  180 over 4 years for this??
Supposedly it is his dlgoal to finish his career with one team. Though I suspect Phillie fan may get him to change his mind.

Uh, you're misinformed. Best stick to basketball, where all the "fair deals" are. Heh

Its a bad deal for Bryce unless he plans to just get lazy and stop trying.   Then it's a great deal for Bryce.  Bad deal for the Philistines.

No. They get  a left handed power hitter in the second most friendly to lefties stadium in the Bigs, they keep the luxury tax down, and they still have the flexibility to add Trout in two years, or whatever pitching they need as the season(s) unfold.

I think it's a good deal for all sides. Including Boras.

One thing it does, too, is show how the Wilpons continue to stand in the way of the Mets.

Yeah. Bad deal for the Phillies:Before the Bryce Harper news broke yesterday, the #Phillies had sold roughly 200,000 more tickets than at this same point last year. They have sold about 100,000 tickets since, #Phillies senior VP of ticket operations John Weber said. Hard to say, but it might be a 1-day record.

a little early for me to declare a 13 year deal good or bad, but it seems the Phillies have secured their future DH

In the Fucked Up Owners of Professional Sports Franchises category, Bob "Tug" Kraft has competition from Larry "Don't touch my phone!" Baer:

DH is coming to NL. For sure. Does that mean the pitch clock goes in?

He's also apparently been lobbying Bell to come be the Eagles' running back for next season.

Amazing:

https://twitter.com/Fanatics/status/1102342868398567424

That is why he got paid. Nothing to do with regular baseball stats. Already ringing that cash register for the team.

I'll be happy if he plays well, and the team competes down the stretch. But the team has to be over the moon with the dollars he is already generating.

Sorry, Kam, but that's why he was "worth it".

Makes sense to me.

Wow.

Chris "Not On" Sale starts lobbying for an LTC: https://weei.radio.com/blogs/rob-bradford/why-chris-sale-believes-he-built-long-haul?utm_source=dlvr.it

Given the $$ and years flying around, I can't blame him.

But given how 2018 finished, I think his timing is a bit off. Can the Sox sign him while his value is down? I doubt it.
