What to teach the children, [16 and 17 year olds are still children]:
. Be well-mannered, polite.
. Be kind.
. The world can be nice, and cruel at the same time.
. Never trust anyone....as the world is of full of liars, cheats, thugs, scammers, kidnappers, rapists, killers and all other forms of evil.
. Never lend anyone money, you might never see it again. Anyone asks to borrow money from you just tell them "I'd like to be able to lend you some money, but I don't have it to lend you, I'm struggling myself". That includes people on the internet [scammers] spinning you love sob stories. "I love you, my mom is sick and needs $20,000 for an operation to save her life".
. Never lend anyone anything you value, they could likely break/ruin it and not be able to return it to you in the same condition as when you lent it. Also, most people are not big on returning borrowed things to you in a timely manner or at all. You have to go chase them for the items.
. Always wear a life jacket around water.
. Never let anyone use your phone.
. Learn to swim.
. Be careful hiking...bears and big cats could rip you apart. Also, make sure you take enough life-sustaining food and shelter for a week in case you get lost, many hikers get lost. A satellite phone, compass, and emergency beacon are must-carry on your person items, a bear could run away with your bag.
Also, when you're old enough, carry guns...the bad people lurk in the shadows...waiting to pounce, the moment you get security-careless.
. Never drive in rural areas in vehicles that are not reliable...same deal as hiking, take food, water, compass, emergency beacon, satellite phone.
When the women in Hallmark movies break down in the middle of nowhere when going home for Christmas or going from the big city to small town USA to save the family farm...a handsome stranger always appears out of nowhere to save them. In real life the chance of that happening is very remote.
