Have a friend in Europe saying that one way the world may exert pressure on the US, as regards bigotry, gun violence, etc, is through a decline in tourism.  People will decide to take vacations elsewhere.

You cannot be serious. Come to think about it you and Josh rarely are.
The U.S. travel and tourism industry generated $1.9 trillion in economic output; supporting 9.5 million American jobs and accounted for 2.9% of U.S. GDP. At 14.5% of international travel spending globally, international travelers spend more in the United States than any other country.

Which is why a possible future decline in tourism would be bad. Can you actually read and comprehend what others say?

It's not that he can't read\ and comprehend, I think, so much as he chooses not to consider others' points when they conflict with previously stated positions or held beliefs.

From a year ago:

The states with the greatest declines in travel, tourism and outdoor recreation employment were Rhode Island (decline of 37.9%), Vermont (37.4%), Connecticut (36.4%), Massachusetts (32.1%), New York (31.5%), and Washington (24.9%).Jun 23, 2021

As with other industries, tourism took a major hit from the pandemic.

If there were other reasons to avoid the US, that could happen again, because of the facts that Ward cited rather than in spite of them.

During the pandemic folks couldnt wait for travel to open up again so they could see NYC, DC and other locales.  Why do you think it would start to shrink to problematic levels at this point?  How they feel about being unsafe on their trip?  Becaue US is becoming a laughingstock?  What exactly? Not agreeing with ESPNTHREE here - but not sure you made a point initially.

The problem with these hearings

Jason Miller testimony, CUT quite short for TV

Jason Miller, Donald Trump s campaign spokesperson, is claiming he was taken out of context during tonight s Jan. 6 hearing.

During the hearing, Rep. Liz Cheney played a clip of Miller

I was in the Oval Office, Miller said in his deposition, a clip of which was played at Thursday s hearing.  At some point in the conversation, Matt Oczkowski, who was the lead data person, was brought on, and I remember he delivered to the President, in pretty blunt terms, that he was going to lose.
Miller is now reacting on twitter, saying that Cheney did not play the rest of the clip in which Trump disagreed with Oczkowski and believed that Oczkowski was not looking at the prospect of  legal challenges going Trumps way

Similar happened with Ivanka testimony re:  her thoughts on Bill Barr.  Would love to see/read her entire deposition but I am sure that would/will never happen

I don't expect it to happen, Kid.

I'm noting that tourism has declined sharply previously and could do so again.

A rise in violent crime, either in general or against a specific group (like foreigners) could do it. Another disease could do it - especially one that was more virulent here than in Europe or Asia. I imagine severe inflation could do it.

I don't think our being a laughingstock would do it - if anything, that might even spur additional tourism!

But, for example, if at our ports of entry (or within a 100 miles of the border) CBP were to become (even more) aggressive toward visitors, using their powers to seize (more) laptops, etc., from tourists, that could have a chilling effect on people's willingness to travel to America.

Reading the posts above, Kid and Ward have confirmed the truth in this,

It explains what is broken about our fellow posters and also why they will never fix it themselves.
