....zeroed in on banning the the AR 15, a gun that happens to be very popular with millions of Americans who use it for protection, hunting, and recreation....

How was Laudanum banned, a tincture of opium that was popular with millions of Americans who used it for sleep aid, intestinal problems, and recreation?  How did they ban it without treading on individual rights?

There is no Constitutional protection for narcotics.

But it's an individual right.
Uh, no. It may be an individual choice but it is not a protected right.
Did you ever actually read the Constitution?

Purposeful out of context quoting will not get a response.

Gun ownership, he says, is a protected right.  So why can't I own an M16 or a machine gun?  That's the question he edited out.

Because he knows the pitfall of answering it honestly.

Saw on my tv news that someone has been arrested for killing in a home invasion that Aussie guy/father married to an American woman, in Texas.
Aussie guy went to the home invasion confrontation with words and his bare hands...instead of a ready to fire AR15 set on auto.
Good guys in America need to be armed to the teeth with handguns, and AR15s that can be set on auto...obviously...or like the Aussie guy they could very well end up dead, in their own homes, or mall car parks, anywhere really.

You can own a M16 and/or a Machine Gun

Pretty clear, in this context, the topic was not collectors who own pre-1986 acquired firearms.

Under the NFA, it is illegal for any private civilian to own any fully automatic weapons manufactured after May 19, 1986.  Nor can collectors purchase new replacement parts for old weapons, nor can they be manufactured.

So, typical that you can't in an honest way acknowledge the underlying point of the question, or how strict gun regulations have been around since at least 1934, or why these regulations have not been held to be contrary to the spirit of 2nd amendment.  So I'm done with the topic, at least at this forum.

Federal law prohibits the possession of newly manufactured machine guns, but permits the transfer of machine guns lawfully owned prior to May 19, 1986, if the transfer is approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

As a result, a substantial number of machine guns are still in circulation. As of 2020, the national registry of machine guns contained registrations for 726,951 machine guns.

News Item

A federal judge on Friday struck down a Minnesota law that prohibits adults age 18 to 20 from obtaining permits to carry handguns in public.

Based on a careful review of the record, the court finds (the Government has) the failed to identify analogous regulations that show a historical tradition in America of depriving 18 to 20 year olds the right to publicly carry a handgun for self defense. As a result, the age requirement prohibiting persons between the ages of 18 and 20 from obtaining such a permit to carry violates the Second Amendment.

"Chinese cities are so broke they're cutting medical benefits for seniors".

#####

That'd be right...and it's creeping into the West too.
A certain section of society seems to want to get rid of seniors as soon as possible.

If I make it into my 80's I'll have to sit a theory and do a practical driving test...which will include ...reversing into parking spaces.
That is an outrage. I hate reversing...and I hate waiting while people  on main roads and in carparks have 6 tries at doing it.

‐----------------------

"School closures spread as Japan struggles with depopulation."

#####

No surprise...only rich people and young professionals can really afford to have children today (and raise them in a good standard of accommodation, living.)
and, about 1/3 of some young populations identify as LGBTQIA+.
and, the average marriage in some countries only lasts 12 years.
and, more than a few young women in interviews on Youtube, when asked the question:
"Instagram...or...boyfriend?"....replied "Instagram".
and, on internet dating sites men rated 1 2 3 4 5 6 aren't getting any 'swipes', and, the women all want the men rated 8 9 and 10.
Men rated as a 7 are getting minimal reples.
