What happened to your post about the bridge collapse, Bambu?

I thought it might have been insensitive.

Time to re-think journalism.
You are right, of course, but for different reasons.
Print journalism is dying in the digital atmosphere.
Hard to sell subscriptions to the Daily Bugle when free news is available 24/7 on the internet.
And that news is not very well produced.
AI algorthyms make awful reading styles( think of your high school paper)
And Editors are a rarity.
The plethora of podcasts, digital news networks, and biased news sites has led to a loss of confidence by the viewers and revenue by would be sponsors.
The FCC did not help by outlawing joint ownership of a newspaper  and  a TV station in the same market.
Of course the socialists are clamoring for government subsidies to journalism overlooking that Congress is rated even lower than the news media.

It is a mess with no apparent solution.
You are not wrong, but bambu is arguing journalists should be cowering at home rather than taking a risk covering important stories. I agree modern communication techniques are altering journalism, but "only cover what is safe" is not an answer.

I didn't say that.
I just don't think they should be in harm's way so I can see pictures of the latest atrocity in Russia, China etc.
Surely there are Russian news agencies releasing pictures.
Good lord. You are even dumber than I thought.

No Russian agencies releasing official videos etc?
So western journalists decide it's a good idea to go into commie Russia and snoop around taking their own...then wonder why they get arrested and tossed in prison.
No degree from Harvard needed for this one either.
Russian "official video"... You are even dumber than I thought I thought you were.

Dumb people think they can go into communist etc countries and do just as they please without consequences.
Not even HS educated bambu is that foolish.
Thank God journalists have balls you lack.

Pretty sure Gershcovich knew the risks. And unlike you, was brave enough to do an important job despite the risks. You stupid quivering coward.

LOL
I notice it's not you and your 'bravery' doing the 'important job' and rotting in a Russian prison.
So, you're exactly the same as I am.
Exactly.
No. Because you are not only a coward with a sphincter permanently in the grip of spasmodic fear, you cannot appreciate the courage and dedication of others. You would consider those brave Marines who died at Belleau Wood losers and suckers, like your hero Trump.

Nah.
But Vietnam, ask yourself: Were brave troops used as cannon fodder in that undeclared war?
Not to mention the Agent Orange sprayed on them.

What does that have to do with anything? I am sure someone like you who is a fan of performative patriotism only does not understand courage regardless of cause. The Marines who died at Belleau Wood may have walked eye-deep in hell believing in old men's lies, and may have died for an old bitch gone in the teeth, for a botched civilization, for two gross of broken statues and a few thousand battered books, but their courage and dedication is unquestioned.

I was going to post about how the video of the bridge collapse seemed surreal. And then saw the name of the ship and thought, no, too soon.

It's part of the Baltimore Beltway that is not as traffic-laden as the rest of the route.  I've taken the bridge with some frequency over the years.  The Bridge was beautiful with unique views.  It sounds like just a terrible accident.

I hope this collapse will lead to better engineering (like the infamous Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse did - a bridge my mother-in-law used to drive over during its brief life) of ship protection devices, in an era of enormous container ships.  You want to think something good comes of those worker's tragic deaths.

I understand the temptation to riff off that ship name.  Rather like the temptation of Saint Anthony.

One sardine, and that's it!

How are the two related?

Both involved engineering issues, which is true for a lot of bridge failures.   The Tacoma fail was due to  insufficiently dampened resonance under high winds.  This relates to parts not sufficiently rigid, so that oscillations could build up.  Last night's collapse was an issue with (as far as can be seen now) with impact buffers not sufficient for large container ships.  Support columns deflected too far and failed.  More will be learned - just saying that this will likely lead to all bridges better bolstered for the era of container ships, especially the kind with long continuous trusses.
