RIP Linda Lavin, whose curly-haired super cute Jewgirlness made me almost want to watch two sitcoms in a row.  (it aired right after AITF)

Before Debra Winger captured vulnerable American male libidos with her supercute curly haired Jewgirlness, there was Linda.

Interestingly enough, or not, i drive by the actual Mel's Diner every day on my way to work.

Ah, the real diner shown in the opening credits.  Which was also the exterior shot IIRC for the Scorsese film.  Sounds like a place that would have had packs of picture snapping tourists back in the 70s-80s.
