Here is an acting scene on You Tube of me doing the Second Chorus from Anouilh's Antigone. My Uncle Dennis was my cameraman (He died in January of 2012, I miss him). I did a few takes that I liked better, but this was one of the few that I made it all of the way through without any mistakes, all in 1 shot with zero editing and without a teleprompter, my Uncle Dennis got tired of shooting it, and so we had to settle on this take. I hope that you enjoy it. I will make more You Tube videos eventually.

"Antigone, an adaptation of Sophocles's classic produced in the context of the anti-fascist French resistance, is Jean Anouilh's (1910–1987) most often-produced work today. Antigone premiered in Paris in 1944, but Anouilh had written his tale of lone rebellion against the state two years earlier, inspired by an act of resistance during Paris's occupation by the Nazis. In August 1942, a young man named Paul Collette fired at and wounded a group of directors during a meeting of the collaborationist Légion des volontaires français. Collette did not belong to a Resistance network or organized political group, but acted entirely alone and in full knowledge of his certain death. For Anouilh, Collette's solitary act—at once heroic, gratuitous, and futile—captured the essence of tragedy and demanded an immediate revival of Antigone. Aware of Anouilh's thinly veiled attack on the Vichy government, the Nazis censored Antigone immediately upon its release. It premiered two years later at the Théâtre de l'Atelier in Paris under the direction of André Barsacq, a few months before Paris' liberation. The play starred (his wife) Monelle Valentin as the doomed princess."

Hopefully you enjoy it.

I would be perfect right now to play a disciple of Jesus in a Bible movie, or an angel, or for a Western, or for French royalty, etc. I would also be a great vampire.

I could play a lot of fun roles as an actor.

Here is Orson Welles' version of "Othello" by William Shakespeare...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09NWcKA7JKw

It is one of the most beautiful pieces of film art ever made. It is stunning.

You cannot buy this film, it can only be found on You Tube for free.

I hope that many copies are made so that this film does not get lost, and I would like to see the film back on the market.

I would like to start going to see plays, Anaheim does not have much by way of theatre, the creative community needs to do a lot more to bring theatre to Anaheim, and Anaheim also needs a film and television industry, and we need a movie studio, and there needs to be movie equipment rentals, etc.

Meanwhile, there are some good plays coming up at the Pantages in Hollywood.

https://www.hollywoodpantages.com/

It would be cool to go see some plays.

I also want to start seeing Company plays at the AADA, I always loved watching the Company plays.

https://www.aada.edu/

Lancaster actually has more theatre than Anaheim. There is the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, and the Cedar Street Theatre puts on plays there, and there are plays at Antelope Valley College. Then in Palmdale there is the Palmdale Playhouse.

Anaheim has the Chance Theatre, but I have never been there.

A few of the best acting teachers who left books behind were Konstantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, and Sanford Meisner....

My favorite personal acting teacher is Madonna Young Magee, whom I first encountered at the AADA, she is a great teacher, and she needs to write a book, she trained with Meisner and Hagen in New York.

Mostly, I work with adolescents and I don't find their books nearly as useful for that crowd.

Here is my student film from USC, I made it with a film student from Turkey, Bekir Serdar Cakir. I thought that I was working for free, but he sent me a check with my copy of our film. So, this was my first paid acting job. They say that you are not really an actor until you are paid to act, and this was the first time that I was paid to act. We had a lot of fun. He entered our film in a contest, and the winner got to be an assistant for Spielberg, but our film did not win the contest.

Here is an acting trick for when you do not have time to prepare...

In your mind's eye you picture the room filling up with smoke, and you smell the smoke, and you taste the smoke, and you can feel the smoke all around your body, and then the smoke turns into whatever emotion you need; anger, sadness, happiness, whatever. Then you do your scene. It is better than just starting cold, and for some people it works well.

American Academy of Dramatic Arts

1d  ·

As we prepare to honor Founder’s Day at The Academy this Saturday, October 3rd, we invite you to follow along this week as we take a dive into the archives to revisit special moments in time throughout our 136 years of Academy history.

The year is 1884: Franklin Haven Sargent has just founded The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. As a graduate and prominent professor of Speech and Elocution at Harvard University, Sargent sought to create a new school devoted to transforming the trade of acting into a respected craft. Thanks to his tireless dedication and planning, The Academy quickly became a proving ground for radical new ideas and groundbreaking acting methodologies. Sargent and his colleagues discovered that encouraging the pursuit of raw authenticity in performance ultimately led to a profound transformation among their students. They witnessed, for the first time, the inherent power of acting when taught as a craft. The training brought to light their students’ ability to deeply connect with truth at any given moment in any given circumstance.

Learn more about The Academy’s history and heritage at

https://www.aada.edu/about/history-and-heritage/

------------

The founder of the AADA was a professor from Harvard, he was a smart guy.

American Academy of Dramatic Arts

18h  ·

As Founder’s Day approaches this Saturday, our historical look into The Academy’s archives continues.

The year is 1923: The foundational discovery made by Franklin Haven Sargent was carried forward when Charles Jehlinger, an early graduate and teacher at The Academy, was appointed to the role of Director of Instruction. Jehlinger’s belief in truthful behavior in imaginary circumstances solidified The Academy’s commitment to these newfound principles of acting and further expanded upon Sargent’s founding vision.

Jehlinger’s many insights continue to resonate with artists and educators today. Among his oft-cited quotes is the following reflection: “There is no limit to the art of acting. You need the understanding of all human nature, the sense of beauty of the artist and poet, the sense of rhythm of the dancer and musician, the mentality of a philosopher and scientist. It is the universal art."

--------------------------------

The AADA is great, if you get a chance to go to see the Company plays in Hollywood, or in New York City, then I highly recommend going, and it is a great cheap date.

Salute,

Tony V.
