Hard work vs. inate ability.

Nurture vs. nature.

For chess, it seems pretty clear - hard work and nurture cannot compensate for a lack of natural aptitude.

No surprise there.

Adults don't, either.

But don't assume the impact is simple or always in the direction you would expect.

Purdue's purchase of Kaplan Education is fascinating in its implications, but it is not yet a done deal.

Racist and obscene memes exchanged among incoming freshman lead to rescinding of acceptances to at least 10 of them!

Ah, yes, the perennial lesson of cyberspace...

Loose talk in the basement at home stays in the basement.  Later, you grow up and realize that your "memes"  are real human beings and what a stupid little shit you used to be.  But, that same kind of talk on the Net, is globally accessible.  Those kids aren't worse kids than earlier crops of freshmen, they just got caught because their puerile jokes are traded in a social space that has a level of access that once would have been the hallmark of a totalitarian police state.  Now, everyone is used to that.  And we forget that anyone on the planet with Net access can "listen in."

Though this time they invited the person who exposed them into the group, themselves.

Value-added cannot be used to evaluate teachers for the purpose of making employment decisions --> it violated due process rights of the teachers.

Delve into poetry, essays, short fiction, photography, paintings, and drawings in the first-ever anthology entirely by autistic people of color, featuring 61 writers and artists from seven countries. The work here represents the lives, politics, and artistic expressions of Black, Brown, Latinx, Indigenous, Mixed-Race, and other racialized and people of color from many autistic communities, often speaking out sharply on issues of marginality, intersectionality, and liberation.

Quote
"St Justin’s Catholic Primary School in Oran Park has angered the community after year four students were told by a nun that they were being taken from their parents at the request of the Prime Minister because they weren’t being looked after properly.

Distressed children weren’t told for five hours that it was only a role play about a part of Australian indigenous history, and that they would be able to go home to their families.

Some children were so frightened they reportedly burst into tears, couldn’t eat, and tried to escape at lunchtime."
