Ah, Australia now too.

The most amazing thing about the Republicans on the Sunday shows this weekend was their seeming conviction that this was it.  We have hit bottom, and the hole isn't so deep that they can't climb out.

We will fin/are finding out very quickly how dumb that assumption was.

So this is being seen as legitimate when compared with the Ukraine call, because Trump was requesting assistance on an inquiry re: election interference being conducted by the AG vs. a trumped up "investigation" meant to manufacture dirt on a political opponent.  Fine.

But have to ask why this inquiry is seen as more legitimate.  Australia is involved in this because the greek coffee boy blabbed to an Australian official in London about Russia stealing those emails.  Trump, and apparently AG Barr whose own daily intake of FOX News has apparently addled his brain, are trying to argue that the whole thing was a set-up(!)

But its true.  Russia did steal the emails, and they were in possession of them at the time.  So what are Trump and Barr trying to prove, exactly?  Or is their "legitimate inquiry" really an attempt to find any piece of info they can use to discredit Mueller?  And if the later is the case, why is that seen as legitimate and not political?

AG Barr “has held private meetings overseas with foreign intelligence officials seeking their help” in a DOJ inquiry “that President Trump hopes will discredit U.S. intelligence agencies’ examination of Russian interference in the 2016 election”

Our "president" is sending his AG around the world to enlist foreign governments to dig up dirt they can use to discredit US intelligence agencies that unearthed the Russian attack on our elections in 2016.

Yeah.  Totally legit!

I have always assumed the investigation into the oranges [sic] of the Russia Investigation was like your boss's pet project you really do not want to do: you tell her you are working at it, provide updates, and hope she will eventually forget she asked you to do it.

In his hearing Barr said that the Trump Campaign was spied on.  He is fully on board with the tin-foil hat conspiracy theories, and seems to think the inquiry into those theories are worthy of the time and personal attention of the Attorney General of the United States.

All to cast doubt on the legitimacy of an inquiry into Russia's attack on our democracy, why?  What could the outcome of that be, other than helping to clear the decks for another one in 2020?

Seems to me if Barr has a problem with the way Mueller conducted his inquiry he is fully in right to look into how Mueller acquired and presented his evidence of Trump's obstruction of justice and collusion with Russia.  I don't know why Barr would need Australia, Italy, the UK and Ukraine to do that.

And the hits keep coming!

Attorney General William P. Barr has held private meetings overseas with foreign intelligence officials seeking their help in a Justice Department inquiry that President Trump hopes will discredit U.S. intelligence agencies’ examination of possible connections between Russia and members of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the matter.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/30/politics/icig-statement-whistleblower-complaint/index.html

The Inspector General (a Trump employee) rebuts Trump's and the GOP's conspiracy theories about the whistleblower's complaint.

I think Trump went after the wrong guy. And "his lawyer gave money to Biden" is pretty damned weak as such things go.
