In this version, trump never manages to become a real boy, just a smoldering pile of puppet ash.

New border crisis - maybe should have been an issue at last night's debate

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50050467

Is this type treatment by US used as a deterrent to future behavior?

An unusual situation.  As the WP reported in its second story, the family did evidence sneaking in, and two of them had been denied visas.  And they had $16,000 cash in the car, which is unusual for your average Brit family on vacation.

Quote
CBP officials disputed the family’s version of events and said the Connors were spotted via video surveillance “slowly and deliberately driving through a ditch onto Boundary Road in Lynden, Washington,” between parallel roadways on the U.S. and Canadian sides. The roads are not connected by cross streets, and the only legal way to traverse between the countries is through staffed border stations throughout the region.

Interesting that the outrage machine over frigid and dirty detentions was activated by reports from the family's POV.  And often isn't activated when thousands of asylum seekers are treated that way, or worse, every day.

What's amusing is how this story developed, starting out as Innocents Abroad, and then turning into an entry far more sneaky and suspicious than all the people coming in seeking straighforward asylum.  Driving in on a drainage ditch, with $16,000 in a bag of cash, strongly hints that they were seeking a fresh start someplace warmer than Canada. I wonder if warrants will turn up in the UK, as the investigation progresses.

So, whose side are you on?

The side of the truth, if we are able to determine what that is.   So far, the CBP seems to have video and physical evidence supporting its version of what happened at the time of apprehension.   But this information would not excuse having a mother with a 3 month infant, its immune system vulnerable, being put in conditions she described in her complaint.  If her account of detention conditions is accurate, then we still have a humanitarian crisis for detainees.

Speaking to the Turkish Parliament, Mr. Erdogan said Turkey would not stop fighting until it had established a planned “safe zone” in Syria roughly 20 miles deep, from the town of Manbij in the west to the Iraqi border in the east.

An admirable cause - though it does apparently run counter to the agreed upon distance of which Turkey is supposed to carve out.

And of course this -

Turkey is very likely using the resettling of Syrians into the safe zone  as a reason to BLOW THE SHIT OUT OF some Kurds.

Sure thing.  Again - the other side says there needs to be a deterrent.  Housing them in Marriott's prior to sending them back says, nice try, here's a perk - see you next time.

What is your opinion of the HOLDING of these people - aside from treatment?

Hence the hasty departure from the bases that was clearly not planned for.

heh

yeah, can you believe - dude left his lunch behind

(led by the nose, you are)

kiidcarter8 is so personally confident that these departures have been in the works for months that anyone who believes the multiple reports and characterizations that they were unplanned is being led by the nose.

Problem for him, of course, is that he can not find one that backs him up.

kiidcarter8 thinks genocide is "admirable."

Oh no, you see, Erdogan's characterization of the operation must be totally and completely the truth.

And he is so totally lacking in any kind of self-awareness that he says others are "led by the nose."

I have no idea what you are attempting to say here, but an observation based on 100 years of Kurdish history is not putting the cart before anything.

Or you could make some attempt to keep up with current events, which you demonstrate here daily is a shortcoming of yours.

So you see the ethnic cleansing but characterize the operation as "admirable" anyway.  Right.  So you in no way contradict what I said at the top of this thread.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/16/politics/republican-reaction-syria-esper-meeting/index.html

The sources said the back and forth at the meeting -- hosted by House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican -- was tense at times as members demanded to know what was being done to protect Kurdish allies in Syria and block the resurgence of ISIS.

"There are a lot of Republicans who don't agree with that policy," one Republican member who was in the meeting told CNN adding that "it was a little heated" at times.

According to another source familiar with the meeting, multiple members challenged Esper on Syria, saying things like, "This is the worst foreign policy decision of my lifetime."

Jesus, these Republican Congressmen are totally being led by the nose. Trump wants others to take more responsibility in the Middle East.  Totally reliable allies, like Russia.  Russia will totally protect the Kurds, because they are there as peacemakers.  Turkey's operations there are admirable, as they are only trying to resettle Syrian refugees.

And ISIS? Whatever.  These Republican Congressmen need to read the BBC.
