ISIS Reaps Gains of U.S. Pullout From Syria

American forces and their Kurdish-led partners in Syria had been conducting as many as a dozen counterterrorism missions a day against Islamic State militants, officials said. That has stopped.

Those same partners, the Syrian Democratic Forces, had also been quietly releasing some Islamic State prisoners and incorporating them into their ranks, in part as a way to keep them under watch. That, too, is now in jeopardy.

And across Syria’s porous border with Iraq, Islamic State fighters are conducting a campaign of assassination against local village headmen, in part to intimidate government informants.

When President Trump announced this month that he would pull American troops out of northern Syria and make way for a Turkish attack on the Kurds, Washington’s onetime allies, many warned that he was removing the spearhead of the campaign to defeat the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.

Now, analysts say that Mr. Trump’s pullout has handed the Islamic State its biggest win in more than four years and greatly improved its prospects. With American forces rushing for the exits, in fact, American officials said last week that they were already losing their ability to collect critical intelligence about the group’s operations on the ground.

...News of the American withdrawal set off jubilation among Islamic State supporters on social media and encrypted chat networks. It has lifted the morale of fighters in affiliates as far away as Libya and Nigeria.

I like how Trump claims he's bringing US troops home, when the 1000 US soldiers in Syria were shifted to Iraq.

Although that could be temporary, since the whole thing was so seat-of-the-pants, maybe that was the closest and easiest option until they figure out what they are doing.

Pierre Delecto?!

I love that in the few texts Pierre wrote, he defended Romney from attacks.

We've seen that here, before.
Not quite up to the implied porn star standard set by Carlos Danger, but not bad for a devout Mormon.
Or "John Miller" or "John Barron" or "Mary Rosh".
That "John Barron" was the best he could do is just one more reason he is intellectually unfit for the office he holds.

The pentagon found a position trump could backtrack from without totally countermanding his orders. They are somewhat professional despite getting their orders from a deteriorating sociopathic idiot.

That doesn’t stop or even mitigate the damage caused in the time between Turkey jerking trump’s strings and whenever trump stops dithering or gets ejected from the office America picked someone else to fill.

It could be temporary.  It also might be meant to be temporary, but change to long-term two weeks from now.  Or they may be headed to Saudi Arabia.

Who the fuck knows with Trump?

I wonder how our resident Constitutional Scholar feels about Trump calling the Emoluments Clause "phony:"

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/21/us/politics/trump-doral-emoluments-clause.html

I'd say that clause is on solid footing.  Clearly stated, with a very clear reason for being.

Also kind of amazing that he can claim that he would have been giving everything away at Doral for "free" but in the next breath say its all in a trust and he isn't in charge of it.

He’s probably thinking if it applies to trump its phony because trump is a phony president.
