High priest of a very similar Devil to yours, Bambi

http://www.salon.com/2020/01/03/bill-barr-warrior-for-theocracy-why-didnt-we-know-this-until-now/

Bar your shores, burn your coal at home and abroad, face your Devils. They are the same Devils you’ve been on your knees before for your entire life; Profit, Entitlement, Waste, Shortsightedness. Purgatory is over. Coffee break is over. Time for you to stand on your head.
You try convincing society to give up its phones, computers, tvs, SUVs, heaters, aircons, flying holidays etc etc etc.
You try convincing climate change protesting school girls to do it...tell them to direct their anger at China too...mrs bambu tried it, they told her she was "just old and racist".

No one is asking you or society to give up anything above or to place any blame. We’re asking you to power those things differently.

When you pray to the Devil that no one arrives on your shores that looks or thinks differently than you do, he answers your prayers by making your lands uninhabitable desolations. No one will come when no one can stay.

Australia is a migrant country.
If people are not Aboriginal, they or their ancestors came from somewhere else.

Legal migrants approved by the govt are welcome, if they assimilate.
There's a conga line of people filing thru the courts, convicted of terrorism offences. They're not White Christians.
There are enclaves of organised crime families. They're not White Christians either.
Immigrant ethnic gangs everywhere. They're not White Christians either.
There are people waving their foreign flags against the Socceroos et al.

The devil is you and me and billions of other people who drive cars, use fossil fuel generated electricity and heating fuel, eat any form of animal protein and think we have the right to have as many children as we want.  There's a future where Charlton Heston is punching sand and screaming "you bastards!" in the ruins of New York...and we're the bastards.

Really, it's okay.  As Matt McConaughey observes in True Detective, you need the bad people to keep the other bad people from our door.  The truly good people, the ones who eat only plants and live in small huts whose heating system is to wrap yourself in a sheepskin, and ride bicycles, and never have more than one child...are probably going to be useless in moving the needle on how ordinary people use resources.  We need people who are stained with ecological transgression, and are feeling a twinge of guilt about it.

In the here and now, today;

Show the World, Australia – Show the World how to Collapse

Remember when China and the US followed our example and abolished capital punishment? No, me neither. But some think those superpowers would willingly destroy their own economies if we first destroyed out own.

Some like the Guardian’s David Marr, for example:

If Morrison could face the truth, he might speak not only to his country but the world. If Australia were taking effective action against climate change, this catastrophe would give us the right to demand better of the great rogue states on climate, China and the USA.

Let’s imagine how a demanding phone call from Morrison to China might proceed:

Nameless Communist Functionary: Hello, National People’s Congress. Chang Wa speaking.

Morrison: Hello, Mr Wa. We in Australia have just banned coal mining and halved our economy, and we were wondering if China could please do the same.

NCF: One moment please.

(Muffled sounds of a brief conversation in Chinese, followed by 30 seconds of hysterical laughter.)

NCF: Very sorry, Mr Morrison. Ling Tao just told a funny joke about those Jiangxi province rednecks. You were saying?

Morrison: I was saying, Mr Wa, that we’ve just halved our economy …

NCF: One more moment, please.

(Further shrieks of laughter, followed by breathless gasping.)

NCF: Oh, that Ling Tao and his Jiangxi impressions.

Morrison: This is no laughing matter! Carbon dioxide emissions have set Australia alight and our firefighters are completely exhausted. We’ve now had to involve our army, navy and air force. Unless you join us in reducing emissions, I will …

NCF: Wait. Stop.

Morrison: Yes?

NCF: You say able-bodied Australians exhausted from firefight?

Morrison: Yes. Yes, I do.

NCF: And you say … defence forces all very busy right now at fire?

Morrison: Well, yes. Everybody must pitch in and help in this great battle against …

NCF: Sorry got to go now big hurry important work bye-bye.

(Hangs up.)

Next, Morrison calls an old friend:

US President Donald Trump: ScoMo! ScoMo, old buddy! Man, am I ever glad you weren’t christened Howard. What can I do for you?

Morrison: Mr President, I need a small favour. See, we’ve just crippled our economy to set an example for you and China. So, how about it? Can you maybe shut down Texas or something?

(Long pause.)

Trump: Do have anything like our 25th Amendment in your constitution? You know, something that means a leader can be thrown out if he goes crazy?

Morrison: No.

Trump: Didn’t think so. By the way, why does this radar I’m looking at show a fleet of Chinese warships headed towards your eastern coast?

New York Times weighs in;
Why not, 'everyone' else is.  :)

http://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/comment-australia-is-committing-climate-suicide/ar-BBYArAP?li=AAgfYrC&OCID=AVRES000

Comment: Australia Is Committing Climate Suicide

BRUNY ISLAND, Tasmania — Australia today is ground zero for the climate catastrophe. Its glorious Great Barrier Reef is dying, its world-heritage rain forests are burning, its giant kelp forests have largely vanished, numerous towns have run out of water or are about to, and now the vast continent is burning on a scale never before seen.

The images of the fires are a cross between “Mad Max” and “On the Beach”: thousands driven onto beaches in a dull orange haze, crowded tableaux of people and animals almost medieval in their strange muteness — half-Bruegel, half-Bosch, ringed by fire, survivors’ faces hidden behind masks and swimming goggles.
Day turns to night as smoke extinguishes all light in the horrifying minutes before the red glow announces the imminence of the inferno. Flames leaping 200 feet into the air. Fire tornadoes. Terrified children at the helm of dinghies, piloting away from the flames, refugees in their own country.

#####

All true.
Climate change is real.
The percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere is 0.04%.
97% of that occurs naturally.
The rest, 3% of the 0.04% is caused by man.
Australia's share of that 3% is 1%.
...so my no1 radio host says. He's not convinced that Australia makes one iota of difference to anything.

He used to say there was no global warming.
Then he said there may be, but man had done nothing that could influence it, it was all natural.

Now he says that man may have caused some of it, but none of it is Australia's fault and what they do has no influence on what happens to them.

Why on Earth would any of you believe a fucking thing he says?!

LOL
Every day tens of thousands of people around the world get to turn on electricity for the first time.
The worldwide literacy rate is at 90 per cent and also growing. The poverty has fallen to less than 10 percent. (it was over 90 less than two centuries ago). As countries become richer they use less aluminum, nickel, copper, steel, stone, cement, sand, wood, paper, fertilizer, water, crop acreage and fossil fuel every year. Consumption of 66 out of 72 resources tracked by the U.S. Geological Survey is now declining.
Deaths from disasters continue to decline not because there are fewer disaster but because we are better at dealing with them.
Life expectancies are up, childhood diseases are way down which has led to smaller families.

Tell me what we are supposed to feel guilty about?

Congress gets Lev Parnas’ iPhone.

Between that and the DB info, we’re going to need a few more House hearings and a few more articles of impeachment.

It was nice of Red to share these global values so when he supports local policies and initiatives that fly in the face of those stated values we can easily see how he’s being a hypocrite.

I'm better than most in environmental terms.  Don't have a car.  Use a bicycle.  Strict vegetarian.  No progeny.

But it's the Golden Age of Discount Imported Food Stores in Shanghai.  So I've been buying all sorts of fancy Asian snack foods and juice and fancy Thai soap on the cheap.  And what's struck me is the packaging nightmare.  I rarely bought packaged goods before, but now all sorts of stuff is over-packaged, heavily wrapped, individually wrapped, some of the shit is downright hard to open.  It's hard to imagine all the packaging I now contend with multiplied times billions.

No wonder the ocean and our bodies are filled with microplastics.

Forgotten History:

Israel was on the verge of assassinating Soleimani in 2015, but Obama's officials foiled the attempt by reaching out to Iran with news of Israel's plans.
