https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/21/politics/trump-sanitize-medical-masks/index.html

During the briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, cautioned that hospitals should consult the CDC's guidelines for extended use and limited reuse of N95 masks. But Fauci, a doctor for the National Institutes of Health for more than 50 years, did not discount the idea of reuse.

Updater rate of deaths per corona virus case in US is 1.24%.

At this rate and with every US resident becoming infected we will lose 4.15 million to the virus.

Here are the parts that China did withhold, but based on the slowness of our reaction when we did know it is very unclear that things would have happened faster:

The Kirkland brand Nighttime cold capsules are excellent.
Just getting over a 3-week bout.

Did you get tested?

Did you wear a mask when you went out?

... in Trump's US.

Time to go out on a limb (like the Wanaka Tree):

With this level of unpreparedness and general botchery, there is no way Trump wins re-election.

I say this despite believing Biden is a hack, and having watched the Dems blow at least 3 elections in my adult lifetime.

Well, Bo - no matter how well this thing with the virus turns out there will be potential to spin it negatively.  I dont think the limb is all that brittle.

But we shall see.  There are other issues.  And personalities.

Not all of it is necessarily Trump's fault.  This virus occurring during a presidential election year was bad luck.

And even with a good response to the virus, if it became necessary to shut much of the US economy down for 2 months, there would be a recession and a stock market drop.  And the economy was Trump's best argument.  Of course it required a $1T deficit-funded tax stimulus just to keep the Obama recovery on course.  But nobody really cares about deficits (until a DEM gets in office, then we can't afford anything).

Campaigning on the ground might be limited until the Summer.  Which cuts Trump off from his big rallies for months, and benefits lower energy and less galvanizing Biden (who doesn't have to speak in public much for a few months and gets to prepare a whole lot).

Trump's bluster, lack of discipline and preparation really comes through during this crisis.  Finally, his chaotic mal-administration has serious real life consequences.  I'm already hearing reports from people I know of people who are or might be infected, including some hospitalized.  Pretty soon lots of voters will know someone who contracted the virus and had their health adversely affected.  Lots of folks who want to get tested or wear masks will be frustrated and angry.  With the lockdowns, lots of folks are going to experience problems paying rent, buying food, keeping their jobs.

Trump won a pretty razor thin victory.  He hasn't really expanded beyond his base.  And the Dems are much more fired up and less complacent.  It's going to be tough for Trump to win.

Well, Bo - no matter how well this thing with the virus turns out there will be potential to spin it negatively.

You sure are an insensitive clod!

It's long since too late for this to end well or slightly well or okay.

The US now has the third most cases in the world and the 2nd most active cases, along with the highest rate of new cases! We "only" have the 5th highest new deaths and 5th highest deaths. There is no reason to suspect that either of those rates is declining any time soon, but all the reason in the world to expect them to continue for a while, even in the most optimistic bullshit that you and the President have been spinning of late.

A 50% increase in deaths in 2 days.

But let's pretend that continuing at that growth rate (which matches Italy's from 11 days ago) will stop and we can keep the rate steady for the next 2 weeks. That's a mere 952 additional people (not that we're done with today, yet, but you don't care), for a total close to 1,300.

In the US, that is.

Also in the US - untold people have lost their businesses, not just their jobs. Even if everybody but the Television Twin physicians is wrong about this, the ripples will go on for years!

Just incredible. Could still be the end of the human race. As of now economic devastation.

---Anticipating the likely investigation into their handling of the coronavirus outbreak, current and former Trump Administration officials are starting to push back on widespread allegations that the Administration’s cuts to critical global health staffing and funding may have hampered its response. Much of that attention has focused on the 2018 disbanding of a National Security Council unit focused on pandemic preparedness, which critics say left a leadership vacuum in global health security at the White House.---

From a physician friend, after reading everything.

She started with the observation that she is not an epidemiologist or an infectious diseases specialist and I should take what she says as coming from a slightly more informed layman when it comes to the coronavirus and its general impact. That said, she opined:
Quote
Hydroxychloroquine may or may not help in cases of covid-pneumonia, though we don't have enough data (i.e., in clinical trials or in some other organized way to collect information).  I can understand that some people do get to a point where they are so desperate that they are willing to try anything with any nonzero likelihood of success regardless of any costs.

That stuff is called Plaquinel and Trump is gonna get a lot of folks killed for no good reason. People already overdosing on the stuff.

My kid uses the stuff to combat MCTD and her friend takes it for lupus. That community is worried if folks make a run on the medicine it could put those who need it in jeopardy.
