Being on the ground here in China, it was easy to see what was working and what wasn't, and that strong prophylactic measures were necessary to stop the spread of the disease.  Somehow such information didn't penetrate the government's thinking, util far too late.  Once there was that outbreak in Kirkland, WA, the US should have gone into emergency measures.  Which is just happening now in an ad hoc manner.
The Shanghai lockdown began in late January.

Btw, Russia just stopped all international flights starting on Friday.  Putin announced next week as a holiday -- a euphemism for a state of lockdown/closure.  Moscow declared a 9 day lockdown, presumably next week and the bookending weekends.
Not gonna be enough, and a belated start.  Their testing regime has been more feeble than the US.  Trouble a-brewin'

Bo

There is nothing on this forum - from any of you - stating the US should have acted at that time.

I wasn't posting on the forum at the time.  Otherwise, a few points:

a) Planning the correct response to pandemics isn't, as far as I know, the job of any poster on this forum.  Had Trump not fired most of them, or listened to the ones he had, the US would have acted on time.

b) This is a bit like saying "no one commented on the bin Laden determined to strike the US" using airplanes before 9/11.  We didn't know what the Government knew.  Now we know, and we should be appalled that their reaction was to sell stock while telling the rest of us everything was going to be fine.  "Buy the dip."

c) We had no idea how little was actually being done.  For example, anyone would have assumed that the administration had a working COVID test ready to go, and plans in place to produce and distribute it, after having a two months heads up.  Of course, they did not.

A full two months after the outbreak in China the Trump Administration thought COVID would be good for jobs!  They either had no clue what they were facing, or were predisposed to ignore it.  Trump only took notice when stocks took a nose dive.

Again, we had more time than any other country, and yet have had the worst response.  There is nothing we could have done to prevent that?

And you think Trump has made us great...

Many that remain are run by temps,  who are either amateurs with no relevant training or cranks known for espousing debunked theories or harboring extremist partisan and/or religious views at odds with an independent and unbiased perspective their job requires.

Don't forget the partisan hacks.

GOP has FOX Newsed itself.  Any and all info not convenient to its ideological viewpoints doesn't penetrate.

And from the evidence here, their devoted followers have followed suit.

There are Americans doing great things, as with Mr. Dyson.

Sir James Dyson is British.

And his heroic actions were a response to the British Government committing to buying 10,000 ventilators from him.

But kiidcarter8 posts this as a shining example while at the same time saying there is nothing else our Federal government could be doing.

Maybe the Brits will send us some of their extras.

I think Russia is where the US was 2+ weeks ago . . .

Quote
“The single most consequential and valuable thing done to stop this virus from already spreading throughout the United States was when President Trump decided to shut down travel to China last month,” Cotton said, referring to the administration's announcement Jan. 31 that it would temporarily bar foreigners from entering the U.S. if they had been to China within the previous 14 days.
It “bought valuable time to prevent the spread of this virus in the United States.”
Cotton said that as a result of Trump banning travel from China, the administration was able to stock drugs and medical equipment, work on vaccines and therapeutics, and “getting testing kits out to the front line.

In theory, he was right.  Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.  And the preparation time was totally squandered and mismanaged.

It seems that Foxnews article was from Feb 29, and the comments from rightists gloating about the virus being a minimal threat and the Trump doing a good job haven't aged well.

My fave:
Quote
It's being blown out of proportion by the Dems/MSM and Liberals around the world to try and collaspe Ameircans economy.  It's their only option left to defeat Trump this Nov.  This is how EVIL the LEFT/DEMS/MSM is.  They would rather tens of millions of Americans suffer as they collaspse the economy, then Trump be re elected.  ...  This will pass with a month, the economoy wil come ROARING BACK, and Trump will win in a landslide this Nov

Limiting travel into the US was a very good thing.
If not we would have far more cases with unknown sources already.
This fiasco is beginning to look like the Spanish flu scam of the 1970s when they ran around vaccinating everyone and it never happened.

Shanghai.
Roughly 26M people in the city with the nearby suburbs administered by the city:

451 Total cases
331 Cured
   1  Death
119 cases of infection outstanding

My very densely populated downtown district:
18 Total Cases / 17 Cured / 1 Death
Another similar downtown district that begins directly across the street from me:
17 Cases / 16 Cured / 1 Death

A fairly good outcome, all things considered.
This seems to be a huge difference with NYC.

Mnuchin is already turning the Senate bill into unemployer insurance eve before it passes the house.

Oh, what Steve wouldn’t do for the GRU. Cough, cough.

What do you think the odds are that President Trump follows through fully on his Easter church preference?  That he recommends all churches be open?

New York hospitals treating coronavirus patients with vitamin C

https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/new-york-hospitals-treating-coronavirus-patients-with-vitamin-c/

-------------------

Building up people's immune systems is vital, for me I have been eating raw garlic and oranges.

And we must get the homeless people into housing and we need to feed them well, including feeding them oranges, to build up their immune systems. We have been very fortunate in Los Angeles that the corona virus has not hit the homeless people. There are many things going on right now to help the homeless, including putting them into recreation centers, and we need to continue efforts to help the homeless. And some of the 2 trillion dollar stimulus package needs to go towards helping the homeless, as we get the homeless people into housing then we need to take steps to keep them in housing, and to help them to improve their lives. After this crisis is over, we still need to continue to help our homeless people.

New York cannot go wrong by giving everyone Vitamin C in the battle against this virus, Vitamin C is cheap and plentiful and we can all give it to everyone.

Salute,

Tony V.
