Now who's gathering at the White House "only to cause trouble?"

Quote
For the record, Trump requested a “MAGA Rally” in DC tonight, and friends are seeing white people setting off fireworks to instigate crowds.

One side is a protest. One side is rioting to distract.

Know how else I know? The wrong hotel is on fire, and the shoppes of Georgetown aren’t anywhere near a typical demonstration. If DC was burning by its own hands, everyone knows where his stupid “Presidential Ballroom” is located.

Also, DC knows how to protest.

Those who insisted that our nursing home problems were impossible to avoid have failed to understand just how simple (albeit not easy) it was to deal with:
https://www.nbcboston.com/news/coronavirus/two-months-ago-an-assisted-living-home-went-into-lockdown-this-weekend-it-emerges-covid-free/2134040/

It took an enlightened owner and a willing staff. But that was all it took.

Nor, as I have pointed out before, was it the only way and they were not the only ones to be clear two months later.

The federal government screwed up. So did the state governments in most states.

New Hork was fucked when Trump launched the Euro ban with no preparation and jammed thousands of international travelers into close quarters for like nine hours... then sent them home across the nation,

The problem is many aides work in several different nursing homes... and they have friends and family in TSA, customs,  custodian, gated agents, baggage handlers, food court workers, hotel and rental car shuttle drivers, Uber, cabs...JFK. Newark.

This is on the feds.

Blast from the past

These assholes went mostly underground once BushIi got into the Whitehouse but Obama brought them back in force.

They think they’ve been unleashed under Trump

Trump wants the RNC national convention to be held with no social distancing and no masks.

I'm in favor.

But don't let them leave the building until they have all been cleared.

This is on the feds.

We disagree.

The feds bear tons of responsibility.

Every governor knew the National Stockpile had not been updated since Obama's first inauguration.

They all knew what the results of the federal pandemic drills were. They all knew there were not enough masks or other PPE. And they knew the Trump administration was unlikely to be helpful.

That doesn't absolve the feds or Trump one iota.

It just means there were many other folks who knew we had a problem and who failed to act.

Pouring oil on the fire:

And having said it, not only can he not unsay it, he will never retract it and he will deny all evidence that he was wrong.

A clergy I personally know was in Cincinnati today. Part of his post tonight.

I went in full clergy gear and was prepared (as always) to be a line between police and agitators. usually a clergy collar and stole help de-escalate the situation.

Three times tonight the Cincinnati police without warning began to fire on the crowd of peaceful protesters. Three times the police advanced and pushed the protesters to different streets. No warning. No explanation. No demand to disperse. Just shooting flash bang grenades and shooting with pepper bullets and something harder.

I dont know if they were rubber bullets or something else. All I know is they hurt.

I've protested plenty of times before. I know what I'm doing. When the police advance, I walk calmly backward with my hands up to show them that I'm not a threat and to allow the protesters (especially those more vulnerable who cannot be arrested) time to move away. The police dont like to shoot a man in a clergy collar with a stole on.

Until tonight.

It hurts, but I'm okay. I don't know what to feel. Is it worse that they shot at me several times hitting my groin repeatedly with pepper bullets? Or that they hit my arm and chest with something harder when they could see I was a clergy member with my hands up? Or was it when they hit me in the back as I was walking away from them - still with my hands up.

Still. I carry such an immense amount of privilege. White. Male. Cis. Straight. Clergy. I walked home.

There are so many of our black and brown and indigenous siblings who never got to go home.

I will keep working. And marching. And maybe even getting hit with riot weapons until the police stop sending people to the morgue when they should be going home.

She was never really in the running if Dems want to win.
Joe is an old white man why would he need a middle aged white woman, to help in the Midwest?

To get more female votes, to get more suburban votes, and yes, to win the Midwest.  Michigan, Wisconsin, PA and Minnesota are key states.  She could do well up there.

Basically Biden has 3 good options.
1) Pick a Midwesterner: Amy K, Tammy Baldwin, Gretchen Whitmer, Tammy Duckworth.  Amy was out on the national trail and did fairly well.  Whitmer stood up to Trump/Trumpism, but just one year on the job.  The Tammys less well-known but possible

2) go with a progressive, which pretty much means Liz Warren.  Downsides: she kind of overshadows Biden, with her energy, smarts, policy knowledge.  Lose a senate seat in MA.  They have different visions.

3) a black female, basically Kamala Harris.  Tough, smart, young, but from CA.
Some other contenders, but none that likely.  Rice, Abrams.

I'd favor 3, 2, 1 in that order.
Harris always my choice.
Wonder how urban riots factor into Biden's choice (if at all)?

But picking a midwesterner to shore up that region seems eminently sensible.
Of course Biden/Harris or Biden/Warren could simply put in the time and money and campaign up there, which Hillary failed to do, even though Trump's people made it clear that was his anticipated pathway to victory.

If you want to take away the lesson: shore up your base.  Then go with Harris.
If you take away the lesson: shore up the Midwest.  Well, then 1 comes into play as a distinct option.  Or go with 2 or 3, and simply campaign hard in the Midwest.

One thing impressive about many of the demonstrations is that they are taking their protests directly to police stations, police HQ's and courthouses.  It's pretty bold to attack police stations and harass police directly.  Better than destroying your own neighborhood (and yes, some of that has occurred too).

I'm waiting for Trump to get his armed MAGA folks to the WH to counter the protests there.  But DC has fairly strict laws about guns in public I believe.

Power vacuums & provocateurs make a volatile combination I don’t wish on any American city,or any city anywhere for that matter.

Someone I’m keeping an eye on for slot 3
