I understand the policy consequences of putting another conservative on the SC, but thats life, and "elections have consequneces" and yada, yada, yada, and I can deal with that.

But why does Trump need this guy over all other conservative judges?

He doesn't.  And may have chosen someone else had Ford/Feinstein come forward sooner (what would have been preferred by Ford).

This is who Trump's camp (or Trump, solely)  chose after FBI vetting.   And the new info stayed secret.  So your side (Go ahead, YG - say it - YOUR SIDE) is complicit.

Now the process is underway - and will continue.

So you are saying it's possible Trump would have agreed that he is unqualified, but will now put an unqualified judge on the court for life because time is running out...on what?  Why does it matter when Ford's allegation came out, kiidcarter8?  Where is the deadline coming from?

Chances of confirmation is always an issue

WEST WING had such an episode.  But the juror admitted to the act

I am not sure what Trump would have done re:  Kavanaugh but there were other highly qualified candidates

but Feinstein didnt give him the opportunity - and this of course was her plan all along (have to wonder how angry this made Ms Ford).

Feinstein will be COMPLICIT in Kavanaugh being a SC judge - should he get through - and you have to live with that.

I really don't have a side kid.

I'm an American watching this country getting torn apart by partisan insanity, and this nomination and fight for Kavanaugh is just the latest example.

And nothing good will come of this except more partisan fights.

I fear we are on the cusp of losing our standards of fairness and decency and recognizing right and wrong.

Remember when smoking pot in college or hiring a nanny off the books was disqualifying?

Again anyone with half a functioning brain who watched the dueling testimonies understood who was honest and who was not.

Would it really be that disasterous for this country if Garland, a moderate Republican, was the next SC Justice?

Nor do I

But I think this way of acting by Ms Feinstein was horrid.

No.  Of course not.

But would Hillary have even put forth Garland?

Not necessarily.  Not even likely.  She'd have had her own ideas, just like Trump has his.  And they'd have been slanted toward certain issues - as Democrats desired.

Bullshit.  Trump has the opportunity now.  Did, in fact, weeks ago when these allegations first became known.  But is sticking with this candidate.  Note, you still can't tell me where this deadline is coming from.

And for the record McConnell warned Trump that Kavanaugh would have the most difficulty getting confirmed (for, presumably other reasons) but Trump went with him anyway.   Trump gets to pick his man or woman (...right) but fair to ask why it needs to be this man.

I love that Kid, whose misogyny has been on display here for years, refers to her as "Ms [he couldn't even bring himself to put the period after the "S"] Ford" likely with the hope that we perceive how respectful he's being.  If you're going the title route, she's "Professor Ford" (or even "Dr. Ford"-hard as that may be for you to believe)  you patronizing dimwit.

Oh, I forgot, you like and respect "Katica" and Abby Huntsman.

WWhoaaaa, now. Hold on....

Simple allegations can sink someone?  Really?

As far as "has the opportunity now" - yes.  Nothing is being ruled out.  Trump today says only that, "(Kavanaugh) and his family have been treated horribly....."

His whole position "Everyone believes that Ford is sincere, but the poor dear is just so confused about who tried to sexually assault her" drips with patronizing condescension.

Credible allegations...yes.

Which is the very point of the question "why can't Trump choose someone else?"  You can accept to have someone on the court who just might have committed sexual assault and lied about it?

As I said weeks ago, lots of people on Trump's Federalist Society list got passed over for less.

BTW, you are trying to have it both ways here.  Ford requested anonymity, and Feinstein (as far as anyone knows) granted that request.  Anonymous allegations aren't given much weight, as shown by Republicans leaking some of their own when trying to discredit Ford's just before the hearing.

So you can't say she sat on the info only to spring it later, while also saying she didn't respect Ford's wishes.

Ford's wish was for the nomination to be withdrawn.

Instead Feinstein held - and we got a circus, Ms Ford in the center ring.

Only the lions were missing.  They came later - came after Kavanaugh.
