During the Lincoln Project's first few months, nothing much took off. But then came the coronavirus outbreak, and the group released a pandemic-themed ad titled "Mourning in America," playing on President Ronald Reagan's famous 1984 re-election ad.

“Under the leadership of Donald Trump, our county is weaker and sicker and poorer,” the ad states. "And now, Americans are asking, 'If we have another four years like this, will there even be an America?"

The group spent a few thousand dollars to place the ad on Fox News in the Washington, D.C., media market in early May hoping Trump would take the bait.

He did.

In a four-part tweetstorm sent just before 1 a.m. ET on May 5, Trump said the "group of RINO Republicans who failed badly 12 years ago, then again 8 years ago, and then got BADLY beaten by me, a political first timer, 4 years ago" are "doing everything possible to get even for all of their many failures." "RINO" is shorthand for "Republican in name only."

The president then called out members of the group individually, adding, "They're all LOSERS, but Abe Lincoln, Republican, is all smiles!"

It was the never-Trumpers, however, who were all smiles after Trump's lengthy attack, particularly as fundraising increased. Weaver said that ad alone got more than 30 million views, adding that in June the group had more than 110 million video views on its ads.

"By attacking us, he's become our biggest financial bundler," Weaver said. "If we were an administration, we'd probably make him ambassador to Slovenia or something, because he's raising so much money for us."

A statue of abolitionist Frederick Douglass was ripped from its base in Rochester on the anniversary of one of his most famous speeches, delivered in the city in 1852.


Police said the statue was taken on Sunday from Maplewood Park, a site along the Underground Railroad where Douglass and Harriet Tubman helped shuttle slaves to freedom.

The statue was found at the brink of the Genesee River gorge about 50 feet from its pedestal, police said. There was damage to the base and a finger./i]

Authorities in California are looking for a couple who defaced a Black Lives Matter street mural on Sunday just hours after community members finished painting it.

The Martinez Police Department announced they were looking for an unidentified white male and female after they ruined a city-sanctioned Black Lives Matter mural with black paint.

The incident began when the couple, appearing to wear Make American Great Again apparel, arrived to the mural in front of the city courthouse in downtown Martinez on July 4.

Footage shows the woman pouring a can of black paint over part of the mural and using a paint roller to cover the bright yellow letters.

When one witness asks the woman 'what's wrong with you,' her male companion replies 'we're sick of the narrative, that's what is wrong.' 

'The narrative of police brutality, the narrative of oppression, the narrative of racism, it's a lie,' the man adds.

The man, who was recording the incident, then points to the Black Lives Matter sign and calls it 'racism.'

An argument is sparked between the man and onlookers while the woman continues to damage the mural.

'There is no oppression. There is no racism,' the man says. 'It's a leftist lie...from the media.'

About 1,000 heavily armed militia, all of whom were Black, marched through Georgia's Stone Mountain Park on Saturday, challenging white nationalist groups in the area to either come out and fight or join them[ in demonstrating against the government.

Yes, states can punish "faithless" electors. And apparently can enforce voting for the popular vote winner in that state.

Less clear to me is that this ruling permits the dictum that one's electors must vote for the national vote winner, which some blue states have passed, but with this ruling coming down 9-0, it sure sounds like that's likely upheld as well or would be if challenged.
