You weigh the risks.
And dead teachers are certainly one of the main risks.
Should you just pretend it won't happen?

Might make sense to have differential measures for teachers over 60, or with medical issues.   And given the greater need for close contact with pupils in K-3, maybe look at having young healthy student teachers do more hands-on tasks at the direction of an older teacher.

And,  at least through mid-Fall,  move everything humanly possible outdoors,  maybe set up canopies and tent structures for rainy days.   Could have an appeal to young students,  where they learn something about civic duty and protecting elders.   Wear a warm coat today,  so you can do class outside,  and save a life.   Might also be a chance to raise consciousness for middle school and high school kids who chronically underdress for cool weather.

AZ governor still looking to get schools open by 8/17

Superintendent Gregorich appearing on CNN right now ahead of tonight's key meeting.
THAT is who they got? Superintendent from Winkleman (pop..352)? I am sure both of their students appreciate his concern.

OK, an exaggeration. But an odd choice.

Big Bang in Beirut.   Given the city's history,  there's a point at which you wonder if the place is cursed.   Second largest non-nuclear explosion ever.   The biggest was in 1917, an ammunition ship in Halifax harbor, which was 2.9 kilotons to Beirut's 2.7.

Tragic loss of life and homes.

Yes.

But not odd when you think of the message CNN wants to put out

Since it's all reactive in the US, and strong measures only go into effect once an outbreak has started, it's no surprise that it's hard to contain the virus.  And at this rate, infections will just keep doing a tour of America, wandering from one area (say Florida) where they belatedly start getting an outbreak reduced, to neighboring Georgia and Mississippi which weren't doing enough until cases rise and it's again late in the day to lock down and mandate masks.

When you see an outbreak starting in NYC, NJ should immediately stop bridge and tunnel traffic, and trains to NJ.  Once an outbreak gets large in Florida, Georgia and Alabama/Miss should seal off their states and do lockdowns, tests, mask mandates, contact tracing.  You start early, success isn't that difficult.  You start late and it's a hot mess.

I thought this was obvious.
China locked down the whole of Hubei Province, instituted provincial lockdowns of varying degrees, and would up with 50K cases total outside of Hubei.  50K of 1.3B Chinese.  The US is experiencing 50K cases per day 6 months into the epidemic.

"Bonk a knob" is one of the simplest palindromes.   And Kid's fate.

Occasionally a forum appropriate palindrome appears on my radar.

Rise to vote,  sir.

Star come,  Democrats!

Gregorich was first featured in Washington Post "Voices from the Pandemic" article.  I guess the Post has a message it wants to put out as well.  In fact everyone has a message they want to put out, except for the President who's tirelessly working to help the American folks.
