White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed Monday afternoon that Trump would like to see college football "safely resume."

"A lot of these college athletes work their whole lives to get four years; sometimes they're redshirted an extra year if they're lucky. They work their whole lives for this moment, and he'd like to see them have a chance to live out their dreams," she added.

Not that I am surprised by it, but I am always struck by the total lack of acknowledged accountability in these statements.  Yes, there are tons of reasons why it is better for kids to go to school in-person.  Yes, it sucks that people can't work out at the gym, and that lock-downs exacerbate people's mental conditions.

And Yes, I love college football and those student athletes absolutely should get the chance to live out their dreams.

So...why can't they, Kayleigh?

Trump and Co. want to do none of the hard work to contain the virus (has anyone seen that asshole in a mask since a made a big deal of it a month ago?) but then don't accept any of the responsibility when, huh, life can't just go back to normal in the middle of a pandemic.

You want to make an argument for restarting fall sports?  Figure out how it can be done safely, provide support for that, or just say the truth, that you don't give a shit how many more people get sick and/or die because it is important for Trump politically to project normalcy.

But don't feed us some bullshit about how student athletes should get the opportunity to live out their dreams.  Trump is the reason doing so is dangerous.

I'm told that college football is like religion in some redder parts of our country.

Plus as we know "kids" are almost immune from covid.

Plus they're wearing helmets with face masks.

PLAY BALL!

Late Feb, I was in Malta which was run for some time by the Knights Hospitallers, before they switched to being crusading Knights of Malta.  They took the Venetian quarantine for ships and codified and spread the concept.  There's what some consider the first modern hospital which has I believe 7 stories, with I think four below ground level.  Small boats could enter directly in from the sea with sick patients, to keep them isolated from the island population.  Unfortunately our short tour couldn't enter the ancient hospital as some high-tech company (Cisco I think it was) had rented it out the two days before and they were still removing all their equipment.

Good thing that there were three police there to handle the situation!

But... I can't decide whether more of the problem rests with the substitute teacher who called the police, the school that did not intervene, or the police who could not figure out even when their handcuffs fell off from being too big that maybe, just maybe, hauling the child off to jail was not, perhaps, the best way to handle this situation.

One cop actually said, “Do you see what you made me do?

Australia looks to export sunshine to Asia, starting with Singapore.  Excess production during the day will go into battery storage and then discharged at night.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-solutions/2020/08/10/australia-solar-energy-asia/

Scheduled to start operating in 2027 at a cost of about $16 billion, the project would combine the world’s largest solar farm, the largest battery and longest submarine electricity cable. It would produce three gigawatts of power, the equivalent of 9 million rooftop solar panels.

The specifications are so complicated that it will be designed by computers using artificial intelligence, according to David Griffin, a solar and wind farm builder who said he came up with the idea while driving through Australia’s hot, dry interior...
