How about the old folks who live in the university town?
How about the town merchants?
Once you have a lot of young asymptomatic people running around infected and possibly infectious, the genie is out of the bottle and the virus is free to roam around.

Trump’s owners are working hard to protect their investment.

We need to work harder to defeat their goon and his coven of crooks.

He is destroying the fabric of our society as the price for foreign fascist help to steal another election and avoid the prosecutions that will fall hard on the heels of his defeat.

Screw the ones who live with grandparents or whose fathers were 50 when they were born.

Pretty sure they don't have grandmas living in U of A dorms.

Seems clear that kiidcarter8 would have benefited from attending a college or a University, and not only because he wouldn't be making the dumb argument above.

A consensus is building among public health experts that it’s better to keep university students on campus after a Covid-19 outbreak rather than send them home as many are doing.

Yup!

And for the ones already on campus, that works pretty well.

Not so well for the kids who live off campus, whether in parents or at home.

An average of betting odds compiled by RealClear Politics showed former Vice President Joe Biden’s lead shrank to 1.9 points on Sunday, down from a high of 24.6 points on Aug. 1.
“Certainly a lot can happen in the next ~60 days to change the odds, but we currently believe that momentum in favor of Trump will continue, while most investors are still positioned for a Biden win,” wrote Marko Kolanovic, quantitative strategist at JPMorgan.
He points to two factors – the violent protests that have sprung up in cities across America and a bias in the polls – as reasons why Biden’s lead has narrowed.

Bark bark bark says the Sealion.

Sure, after a school has an outbreak the kids should stay put rather than spread the infection.  Duh.  The question in the case of schools like the University of Alabama is whether or not they should have opened, and if they took proper the proper precautions to prevent that outbreak from happening.

Somehow Trump and the GOP wasn't willing to acknowledge the benefits of mask wearing until Aug 1, and even worse made face masks a political issue.

And even after acknowledging it, held a RNC speech where 1500 people were 95% mask-less and packed together.   The message, that the virus is either harmless or under control, is all about politics, and not at all about keeping Americans safe.  Recklessness in the name of TRUMP 2020.

As I have pointed out here in the past, RCP cooks their numbers.

And as has also been pointed out and Mr. Kolanovic agrees, some of the polls are biased against Biden and, I would add, more of those are being used now.

But a shift to looking at PredictIt's numbers show a reasonable situation for Biden, at this point:

Not enough to make me comfortable, but more than enough for me to decide that RCP's betting compilation is crap.

Elderly people being around college students is unnecessary.

yeah.

There are no multigenerational households in the USA.

No, I think Ward's quote of the consensus is still important, because so many kids live off campus that heeding that dictum becomes impossible - and if they have an outbreak in the dorms, then they have almost certainly spread it into the community.

Follow-up to the story about the NH GOP and illegal absentee ballots they sent out:

Quote
GOP sent out 200,000 of those illegal absentee ballots. 2900 or so have been returned. (Maybe postage barcoded). They plan to reach out by newspaper ad and telephone to those voters

In Belarus news, 100K showed up in the streets of Minsk for Lukashenko's birthday.
Word is creeping out from eyewitnesses and election officials about voting fraud, such as blank result sheets being signed and certified before voting ended.

Quote
Andrei Gnidenko, who worked at a poll in Vitebsk, a small city in northeastern Belarus, said he gave in to the pressure and signed a document with falsified results.

“For the next few days, we were all very severely depressed,” the 29-year-old said Friday. “I decided that since I betrayed the Belarusian people, since I took part in this rigging and put my signature on it, it was my duty to honestly tell it (to the public).”

Quote
An audio recording from another polling station in Vitebsk was posted on YouTube in which poll workers are heard being told by an official to falsify the results in favor of Lukashenko. The official suggests that poll workers “swap the numbers” for Lukashenko and Tsikhanouskaya.

“I’m prepared to agree that a lot of people voted for Tsikhanouskaya … but we have other goals and other problems we need to solve,” the official says. After some back and forth, poll workers swap the results.

Some of the workers later confirmed to Belarusian media the authenticity of the recording

Lukashenko has previously claimed that vodka and saunas can protect against CV-19.  He got infected but said it was no big deal.  After the protests began he made one public appearance in which he wildly waved round an AK-47 and made threats.  Reports were that it wasn't loaded and many said he didn't know how to hold a rifle.

Trump's kind of dictator!

I guess we only have a different strain of the virus than China had when it is convenient for you to say so.

Factor that in if you think it's needed.  Even if the strain in the US is more contagious or more easily transmissible, we have known for 100 years how a respiratory virus is spread.  Cover your important breather holes.

Somehow Trump and the GOP wasn't willing to acknowledge the benefits of mask wearing until Aug 1, and even worse made face masks a political issue.  Along with all the other blunders such as the botched test rollout, downplaying the threat, reopening too soon (under Trump's direction), and a total lack of a coordinated national strategy, etc.  Just failure after failure led to the virus still rambling along, death and hospitalization tolls climbing, when instead we could have been safely reopening schools and offices by now.  Most of Asia and Europe (same strain as US) have things fairly under control.  The US still doesn't. Awful.

Calling Vitebsk a small city is relative I guess.  With nearly 400K it's the 4th largest city in Belarus.  Had a historic Jewish community, where Jews were allowed to live on the outskirts of the Russian empire.  Marc Chagall was born there.  Vitebsk was almost completely destroyed during WWII (Nazi bombing and retreating Russian fires), but it's old town was rebuilt (similar to what was done in Warsaw).

Post the relevant parts here if you can.  between the WSJ being banned in China, my not having a working VPN at the moment, and the WSJ paywall, I have zero chance of accessing that article.
