Over half a year in and the virus is still rampant in the USofA.
Perhaps downplaying the virus and deriding masks wasn't a good strategy after all ...

Speaking of Trump's deceits. Pompeo, for a change, is calling things based on the evidence.

Still pretty weak sauce:

Quote
“And when they see the effort to poison a dissident, and they recognize that there is a substantial chance that this actually came from senior Russian officials, I think this is not good for the Russian people. I think it’s not good for Russia.”

He added: “I think people see this and say this is not the way countries that want to be powers, that want to be important and play on the global stage, this is not the way that they should engage in activity".

Tsk tsk.
Try not to do it again.

I suspect that anybody who got sick from one of Trump's rallies now has cause to sue based on criminal negligence (at best) on the part of President Trump.

The difference between the Nixon Tapes that came to light from the work of Bob Woodward and the Trump tapes that he has given us today?

 The Republican Party.

Members of the GOP of the 1970's put pressure on Nixon to resign.

The GOP of today? They live in what's been described as a counterfactual world of their own making.

Asked to respond to an excerpt from Woodward's book where General Mattis is quoted saying Pres. Trump has "no moral compass"

Sen. @BillCassidy replied “I can’t comment on someone else’s opinion"

Asked about Woodward's recordings of Trump's public comments on coronavirus in March.

@tedcruz: "haven't seen the book"
@SenRickScott: “I’ve not read it"
@SenJohnKennedy: “I haven’t read it.
@SenCapito & @senrobportman said haven't read it, despite being read parts

When asked about Woodward book saying the president downplayed the severity of the Coronavirus, @MittRomney responded: “It doesn’t sound ideal to me.”

GOP ND Sen Cramer on Woodward book/coronavirus: Donald Trump has been very consistent. His stream of consciousness..is always optimistic..it doesn't bother me. I don't feel like he was ever lying to anybody. He's a hopeful, upbeat, positive person

Lindsay Graham:  "I don’t think he needs to go on TV and screaming we’re all going to die.”

McConnell said "I haven't looked at the Woodward book. That's a good question for the White House," when asked about Woodward reporting that Trump publicly downplayed the coronavirus despite knowing it was deadly.

...

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Pamela Brown asked GOP Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana if Trump's actions were acceptable, or misleading to the public.

Kennedy responded by saying: "These gotcha books don't really interest me that much."

When Brown said Trump was on the record, Kennedy said again: "These gotcha books don't really interest me that much. There will be a new one out tomorrow."

"Gotcha books".

Yes, he gotcha on tape saying that American lives don't matter as long as you can get reelected.

Fuck you, Trump, and fuck you, GOP, and a fuck you to anyone who votes for or has voted for these treasonous bastards.

February 25 - Nancy Pelosi live on TV invites “ everyone” to visit Chinatown and deplores xenophobia.

I remember that. That was sheer stupidity and I thought so at the time.

I don't disagree, but it does raise the question of what Pelosi knew.  Did she know that COVID was five times deadlier than the flu and could be transmitted through air?  Did the Mayor of New York City know this when he was telling people to keep going to bars and using the subway?

No.  Of course they didn't.  So why didn't they when the "president" and Bob Woodward knew?

What was Trump telling US Governors about the virus while boasting to a guy writing his biography about how dangerous it is?
LOL!

Another day, another piece of Trump corruption moves forward in the courts:

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/lawsuit-against-trump-inaugural-committee-can-continue-judge-rules-n1239703

Quote
A judge denied a bid Wednesday to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that President Donald Trump's inaugural committee and the Trump Organization misused nonprofit funds to enrich the president's family business.

The suit, brought by Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine in January, alleges that the president's inaugural committee was aware that it was being overcharged for services at Trump's Washington hotel in 2017 and still spent over $1 million at the hotel, including money for a private party for Trump's three older children.

The inaugural committee argued in part that Racine's office failed to show a violation of the Nonprofit Act and does not allege that the committee is "continuing to act" in a manner that violates the law, court papers say.

But D.C. Superior Court Judge José López ruled against the defendants, writing that Racine's office has "sufficiently alleged that Defendant PIC is continuing to act in a prohibited manner," referring to the Trump inaugural committee.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who organized the inauguration, provided tens of thousands of electronic documents to Racine's office, which were used to support the lawsuit's allegations.

"It's important that the truth come out and justice be served," Winston Wolkoff said Wednesday.

heh

Winston Wolkoff helped plan President Trump’s 2017 inauguration but was caught in a scandal when it was reported that her company received $26 million for organizing the event. She resigned in 2018 but has since said she was a scapegoat and unfairly “thrown under the bus.”

Your tagline reads: No one will be safe in Biden's America.

No one has been safe in Trump's America.

No one.

The POTUS who claims to have held back on informing the public honestly regarding the coronavirus because he didn't want to create panic, has had no problems ratcheting up fear. Fear of immigrants. Fear of black people moving into the suburbs. Fear of losing your guns. Fear of losing your bible. Fear of China.

But no fear of coronavirus. No fear of letting countless people die so the stock market can keep rolling.

No fear of Russian interference in our elections.

And, of course, no fear of anyone in the GOP, as they have all laid down for him faster than Stormy Daniels did.

If you fear Biden, and not Trump, you're either unaware of the meaning of the word, or just a fucking stooge who is easily misled, or you're a willing anti-American, ready to be plucked by the Trumpists so you don't have to admit how wrong you've been.

GOP ND Sen Cramer on Woodward book/coronavirus: Donald Trump has been very consistent. His stream of consciousness..is always optimistic. He's a hopeful, upbeat, positive person

Except when he's talking about Biden readying to ruin the country/economy/civilization.

Quote
Lindsay Graham:  "I don’t think he needs to go on TV and screaming we’re all going to die.”

That's the BS false dichotomy Trump has been pushing.
The two options were either pretend the virus will disappear on its own and go away like magic, or tell everyone to hide in their basements with the lights off, a gun and bible nearby, and prepared to meet the angel of death.

No middle ground such as explaining the risk and telling people to take sensible precautions.  Somehow a positive, useful gov't reaction and intervention doesn't seem to have occurred to the Trumpsters.

They also don't seem to understand that a "panic" move* such as a 2 month nationwide lockdown would have been the smartest thing and returned the country and economy and lives back to normal much sooner than the do-nothing, stealth herd immunity approach Trump went with.

* it would have just been smart and effective public policy.  Quarantines a time-tested method of halting transmissible diseases.

But it's unbelievable that Trump not only did little to nothing to combat the Virus, but actually actively thwarted state efforts to protect their citizens.  Trying to bully and force premature reopenings.  Similarly the Trump acolyte Gov of GA sued Atlanta to prevent a mask mandate from being enforced.    Worse than doing nothing is to actively try to prevent others from protecting people's health.  But I guess that also been the decade-long anti-Obamacare/Romneycare campaign the GOP is still waging.
