On Nov. 10, Shanghai confirmed one new Covid-19 case involving a 51-year-old man who works as a cargo handler at Pudong Airport, the first locally transmitted case in the financial hub in nearly five months, authorities said Monday.

The case appeared as Shanghai is hosting the China International Import Fair (CIIE), a huge trade expo that China is promoting as a major step toward further opening up its economy. The event started Nov. 5 and is set to end Tuesday.

So how did Shanghai react to one case?

All the nucleic acid tests of the 8,717 contacts and 524 environmental samples related to the confirmed case returned negative results, Shanghai’s health authority announced Tuesday.

What precautions at the Expo?

To guarantee the safety of the CIIE, all participants must undergo nucleic acid testing and inspection to be admitted into the event, and thorough disinfection of key areas such as entry points to the city, accommodation areas and expo venues must be carried out.

Passengers Arriving by Plane?

Shanghai is adopting closed-loop management and requires a full traceability chain to prevent imported COVID-19 cases. All inbound travelers are required to submit their health condition, take nucleic acid tests and measure their body temperatures upon arrival, and are subject to a 14-day quarantine.

The quarantines take place at gov't approved hotels, where you aren't even allowed to receive restaurant food delivery. 

Not all Countries Welcome

China has suspended the entry of non-Chinese nationals from at least 10 countries including Italy, Russia, and India due to the worldwide coronavirus resurgence.

Previously Indian nationals were required to have 3 negative tests within 36 hours of their flight.  2 negative anti-body test and a more sensitive test (I forget which). This after a couple dozen Indians were positive upon arrival to China in October.

I was just perusing  Red's book, "Killing History". Here are some things I learned.

Jim Crow? The name given to the laws that allowed black folks to vote in the Reconstructed South.

The Red Sox won the 1986 World Series. They know that. You don't.

The Black Plague was a total invention used to sell Shakespeare's works.

Atilla the Hun was a peacekeeper helping to secure Europe's freedom.

Viet Nam was a total victory for the USA. General Westmoreland told us that, dummies.

They were being paid to shake the cameras at the A's Giants game, and the players were paid extra to pretend they were experiencing an earthquake. It was all designed to embarrass George H. W. Bush. Fay Vincent was carrying out Paul Giamatti's wishes for honoring his dad, who hated Bush because he thought he was an embarrassment to Yale University.

So. The only elementary school students learning IN a school classroom these days in New York City attend private, Catholic, or Charter schools. If you are a public school student  you are subject to at-home learning.
