Trump was thrust into office by the vast right wing conspiracy and Vladimir Putin in furtherance of their many crimes. It has amounted to this. Trump is as bad in government as he is in sport, or family, or business. He’ll have killed half a million Americans,  stolen close to a billion dollars, and destroyed countless institutions and impoverished countless lives by the time the next two weeks are up, all while killing the economy and saddling the US with record debt, while weakening our position in the world.

If China wants Australia for a snack, we may no longer be strong enough to help thanks to trump.

If you want to stay a lap dog, bambi, keep lapping, but your bullshit just embarrasses you and annoys everyone else.

Everyone else might be annoyed, but the fact remains that Trump was indeed elected President by a sizeable margin to do the things I listed.
Like it or not.
That he didn't have much idea how to do what he promised, ranted on Twitter his every thought then retracted much of it soon after, seemed arrogant and misguided, then stuffed up bigtime at the end...doesn't mean America in 2016 wasn't looking for major change.

Trump treated the election and country exactly the same as he treated his business and a building project.  In the end he made fraudulent claims, bullied, brought myriad lawsuits and refused to follow through on his legal obligations.

Of course trying to overturn an election is a different level of cheating than stiffing small subcontractors.  But it's exactly the same pattern of deceit, bullying, and trying to come out on top via defrauding.

Putting a thoroughly corrupt megalomaniac with no sense of morals or ethics in a high position of power -- what could go wrong?

So 8 staff members were in Pelosi's office when the mob crashed down the door.
They hid in a conference room they locked and barricaded then waited 2.5 hours in the dark while insurrectionists ransacked the main office just outside the door.

Quote
As a pro-Trump mob beat down the door to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office on Wednesday, her staff ran into a conference room, barricaded the door, switched off the lights and cowered under a long table. Eight of them stayed there for 2½ hours as rioters pounded on the door and ransacked and defaced the speaker’s office, Pelosi told “60 Minutes” on Sunday.

Quote
Pelosi also reiterated that Trump’s actions were so grave that he deserves severe punishment.  “This president is guilty of inciting insurrection,” Pelosi said. “He has to pay a price for that.”

Right on.

56 police officers were injured.  Not sure how many hospitalized.

As far as I can tell, only one entrance was breached on the west side, which probably meant that many more violent and hardcore thugs who had battles with police elsewhere around the Capitol building were kept out.

Cronkite and the CBS News Team, not long after the election, examining the Watergate Affair, including allegations and the question, already, of what did Nixon know.

The dirty tricks. The multi-level involvement and secret money. The Nixon administration and GOP denials of huge swaths of things that proved to be true.

The blatant effort to subvert our democracy.

We all know what has happened since then. Well, we know some of it, at least. Reagan's secret dealings with Iran before he became president. Ollie North and Iran Contra. Later, the bogus allegations of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Has the GOP model of campaigning and governance changed since Nixon's first election, when he used Kissinger to subvert the Vietnam Paris Peace Talks?

I don't think so.

---House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is accusing the Trump supporters who rioted in the Capitol this week of choosing what she calls “their whiteness" over democracy.---

Nancee and the liberal elite so hypocritical.  Anything for a cheap nanny or some minority votes.

She’s telling the truth.

White folks are pissed over the lie the election was stolen by illegal votes... illegal black votes.

Black people mobilized and voted, winning the primary for Biden, winning the general election for Biden and winning the GA runoff the day before the assault on our nation’s government.

White people don’t want share power.

I think I saw that they were looking into terrorism charges against the two thugs with zip ties.  Don't worry about initial charges.  It's a process.  More can be added.

The guy in tactical gear says that he just happened to find the zip ties and was actively looking for a policeman to hand them to.  But then put them in his pocket and forgot about them.  His bad.  He claims his tactical military garb was just to keep him safe from big bad antifa.

I wonder if there will be any records on his computer of purchasing a large set of such flexicuffs.  Check his computer and credit cards.  Though it's possible that these were taken from the Capitol Police in the chaos.

Some of these insurrectionist no doubt have maps of the Capitol on their computers/phones.

Lotta folks losing their jobs and under arrest -- as it should be.

Q: What sort of penalty should people face who broke through police lines, entered the Capitol and threatened elected officials?

I'd think 5 years for some who just wandered in and around.
5-10 years for those who used force, were more of a threat, posed a threat, damaged property, had tactical plans, etc

Quite a few could and should be charged with felony murder.

He was elected by 77000 votes across three states.

I don't think so.

September 11 was the inflection point where the message became the full on manipulation of reality through WMD, color-coded threat levels, duct tape and plastic sheeting, etc., etc.

Ron Suskind interviewed a high-level aide in the Bush II Administration:

“The aide said that guys like me [Ron Suskind] were in what we call the ‘reality-based community,’ which he defined as people who ‘believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.’ I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ‘That’s not the way the world really works anymore,’ he continued. ‘We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. More Fox right wing opinion in prime time, less news and fewer facts.

Why? Competition from Newsmax.
