I thought it was a pretty sad commentary when an insurrection was in full swing some high ranking GOP Congresspeople were forced to call the president's daughter and son-in-law trying to get police reinforcements. Bjut Trump has so normalized neoptism and corruption and dereliction of duty that this doesn't even gte reakred upon. Remarkable.

Barnett or whatever his name is who was photographed with his feet up on Pelosi's desk has claimed he was just walking around outside looking for a bathroom when a crowd surge involuntarily pushed him into the capitol building. Then things looked dangerous so he ducked into Pelosi's office for safety to hide out. I presume he'll have a more plausible story for his actual legal defense.
He also noted that somehow he was cut on his arm (smashing some glass windows perhaps?) so when he noticed he got blood on an envelope on Pelosi's desk, he took it with him. So he admits to stealing gov't property, and taking the envelope with his blood on it sure sounds like trying to remove/limit DNA evidence that he was there, which certainly goes to knowledge of wrongdoing (contradicting just hiding out). Of course feet up on the desk and a grin doesn't exactly look like hiding out from danger.
One of the zip tie guys in military garb claims he just found the zipties on the floor and was looking for Capitol Police to return them to.
Others are saying the door to the Capitol was open and they just walked in.
True, ignoring that occurred after pitched battles with police trying to stop them.
Some have said they thought they were welcome to go in. Or were following the presidents orders. Which is an interesting defense -- the President of the US instructed me to stop an illegal Electoral College certification.
The latest is a number of the arrested insurrectionists are starting to claim that they entered only as "journalists" to document the moment. At least these assholes likely talked to actual lawyers and are seeking out a loophole.
So far many of their excuses are rather childish and will be easily disproven and just make their legal defense more difficult. Better off shutting up and lawyering up. But these folks are mainly narcissist assholes who think they are important and crave the attention.
Good to see these folks getting fired from their jobs and publicly shamed for their roles in attacking the gov't. A few years in jail will help them contemplate their actions.
