Vance graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and philosophy.  He started a nonprofit to fight drug addiction in poorer parts of the country.  He's a rural sociologist (perhaps not a good one). 

So, no, he is not really Trump.  But his word farts on Ukraine were rather Trumpish.  Except that Vance apologized for his word farts.  So, again, not really Trump.

Also worth noting, his appraisal of Trump in 2016 was this:

Trump's actual policy proposals, such as they are, range from immoral to absurd.

All good indicators that he will be, for all his regressive policy ideas, far better for Ohio than Trump would be.
