Is this type treatment by US used as a deterrent to future behavior?   

An unusual situation.  As the WP reported in its second story, the family did evidence sneaking in, and two of them had been denied visas.  And they had $16,000 cash in the car, which is unusual for your average Brit family on vacation. 

CBP officials disputed the family’s version of events and said the Connors were spotted via video surveillance “slowly and deliberately driving through a ditch onto Boundary Road in Lynden, Washington,” between parallel roadways on the U.S. and Canadian sides. The roads are not connected by cross streets, and the only legal way to traverse between the countries is through staffed border stations throughout the region.   

Interesting that the outrage machine over frigid and dirty detentions was activated by reports from the family's POV.  And often isn't activated when thousands of asylum seekers are treated that way, or worse, every day.

To all the swing-district Dems in the House who are reticent about a floor vote, a simple question:

Is it better, politically, to be focused on reelection and thus leery of openly calling for impeachment, or to take a risk and affirm the dynamic of the blue wave? 

This all seems to hinge on how you view the mindset of that statistical creature:  the Independent voter. 


Whatever choices the Fragile Democrats make, I would certainly cast a vote for ending closed-door depositions.  The admin is getting way too much mileage from it, and the public should be hearing what these committees are hearing.  I did have a LOL moment when I heard Trump complaining about lack of transparency, but I'm sure his base remains irony-impaired.

What's amusing is how this story developed, starting out as Innocents Abroad, and then turning into an entry far more sneaky and suspicious than all the people coming in seeking straighforward asylum.  Driving in on a drainage ditch, with $16,000 in a bag of cash, strongly hints that they were seeking a fresh start someplace warmer than Canada.  I wonder if warrants will turn up in the UK, as the investigation progresses.

The rabid and virulent racism of Kiid and others prevents them from making the obvious connection or accepting their personal responsibility.

The criminal right wing in the republican pig trough are heaping on closed door testimony because it is preventing their defense from coordinating their smokescreen or understanding how badly their coverup has been breached. Regardless of the information available, they would attack it. They are allergic to truth and sunlight. It tend to send them to prison.

The fact that they don’t know exactly what to attack gives them the real and accurate feeling that they are losing, they won’t be able to get away with their business model any more, and that they are going soon to pay the piper.

There will be another phase of our nation’s immune response to Fox blessed Russian owned scumbags infecting the administration and Senate majority that will involve a shit ton of depositions becoming public with multiple channels of irrefutable evidence that the republican administration must be ritually drowned in its bathtub so America can trade its grifter infestation for a working government.

The issue was ongoing for many many months.

Not only Democratic candidates but Republicans have also characterized the decision this way. Lindsey Graham called it “impulsive “ and it’s clear from their reactions that Trump allies that would have been consulted if this had been a properly vetted decision were not.

And Defense was taken by surprise too. These were considered long term deployments. Hence the hasty departure from the bases that was clearly not planned for.

Maybe the careful deliberations were all happening in Trump’s little noggin but you’d have to speak to that as apparently you are the one informed on his thought process on all things.
