I might be wrong, but if a DEM Prez was caught extorting a foreign country for personal political benefit as much as Trump has been exposed, I think the Dem defense would collapse and the Dem Prez would be heading out the door.

But the GOP will defend the indefensible and play hardball as long as possible.  So we have documents being withheld from the Congressional inquiry, and forcing protracted court battles; incredible defenses such as "Matt Whitaker, Trump’s former acting attorney general, arguing that what Trump did isn’t grounds for impeachment — because “abuse of power is not a crime.”   Seeming ready to argue that an actual crime must be committed and proven to impeach.  trump probably did commit a crime by seeking foreign assistance in his reelection, but it muddies the waters and delays things to force the House to prove the president committed a crime, instead of just violated the public trust and used the power of gov't for his personal benefit.

Amazing the lengths the GOP will go to get and retain power.

But I love the tacit admission that Trump did abuse his power!

Yeah, but they'll just pretend he meant it hypothetically, Even If ...

Last week we had the presidential spokesperson admit there was a q pro q.  Why did he admit it.  Because it happened.  And can be testified to by various ambassadors, by Giuliani's interference, by Trump's own telephone convo.  So Mulvaney admitted it and tried to say it was normal.  And Trump smacked him around for that and sent Mulvaney back out to say that that's not what he meant or that he didn't say what he said, or whatever other self-contradiction might not be too risible.

These people have no shame.  No integrity.  No concern for the Constitution ("phony emoluments" clause; impeach net is somehow fraudulent) or the country.

They're ultimate fallback is that anything the president does is legal or at lets can not be prosecuted as illegal while he's in office.  The Dems never pushed back hard enough when the Trump Admin floated that idea months ago during the Russian probe.  Mueller seemed to swallow that partisan self-serving legal advice.  And  most news orgs present that as true as well.  Well, it's false and antithetical to out democratic system.  One man is not irreplaceable.  One man is not above the law.  the law applies equally to everyone.

If the evidence against Trump is so damning, then why not make it all public now ?

What’s your rush? It’s like demanding a grand jury be conducted in public.

Have a seat, fool.

So, do the Democrats prefer Trump out of office and to run against Pence?

Is that behind it all?

Fess up.

No.

I realize you find the idea that it is not Trump's conduct.and abuse of office but partisan politics that is driving impeachment to be a comforting myth, but it is a myth.

So an update on the evolution of Trump defense:

No Collusion! No Obstruction!
Obstruction but No Collusion!
Collusion, but no Quid Pro Quo!
Quid Pro Quo, but the other guys didn't know it!

Well, that last defense lasted less than a few hours:

You are a soft headed Trumpist who doesn't care that your "president" is corrupt so long as he keeps trying to keep the brown people out.

Fess up.
